When are welsh schools closing ffs?

OP posts:
HNY2021 · 04/01/2021 20:44

They are closed - for 2 weeks

GoldenLabbie · 04/01/2021 20:45

It was announced earlier this evening.

FlyingFlamingo · 04/01/2021 20:45

They’ve been closed since early December Confused

Nomoresleeps · 04/01/2021 20:45

It’s on bbc Wales and walesonline.

Theodoreb · 04/01/2021 20:46

Right thank you couldn't find anything and I'm not to good with finding things on the news as I have mental disabilities.

If Wales has been forgotten then it has been forgotten by its own government

Zofloramummy · 04/01/2021 20:49

I suspect we will be following Scotland and England in the next few days in announcing closure until at least feb half term.

MushMonster · 04/01/2021 20:52

I found a place to askGrin
So, are they only closed till the 18th in Wales at the moment? For mine, it is only one extra week.
But, do you think they will extend it in line with England and Scotland? Maybe not full Wales, but by areas? Here in Newport, the numbers are quite high.

Zofloramummy · 04/01/2021 20:54

I’m in Wrexham and numbers are high here too. I suspect they’ll follow Scotland and England and close until at least half term.

MushMonster · 04/01/2021 20:54

Wales online is good.
I also use The Argus South Wales, just write it in google. The covid news tend to be on the very top.

I have the same feeling.
But I cannot get my head around why they keep delaying announcing it till past the last minute.
It is childcare, it takes ages to arrange. They should give as much notice as they can.

Why not just ask for a link then instead of assuming and swearing?
HPLikecraft · 04/01/2021 21:45

There's no need to be so rude, @HNY2021 Hmm

I find it difficult too to keep up with what's happening in Wales sometimes. The main news is meant to be nation news, but it's generally just English news. Well, regarding Covid anyway. I expected more from Huw Edwards!
And I don't get Welsh news... for some reason we get south west news here, so I know more about Devon and Cornwall than Wales.

HPLikecraft · 04/01/2021 21:46

*national news

Yes, at the moment it's only definite til the 18th, but a large chunk of people seem to think it will be extended in line with England and Scotland.

Rates per 100,000 are lower in Wales than England. If they keep coming down schools may be able to open. Tier 4 in Wales is stricter than Tier 4 in England, so maybe we have a chance.

Runforthehills82 · 04/01/2021 22:11

Hi OP, if you go to the bbc news Homepage along the top are some options, if you click on Wales you get a page of Welsh news, it’s pretty good. I also follow BBC Wales on Facebook so Welsh news pops up in my feed.
I agree National coverage of Welsh news and announcements is pretty poor. As a Scottish person living in Wales I’m surprised by how little Welsh news is reported on.

MarleyTheDog · 04/01/2021 22:28

The Welsh FM will be giving us an update on Friday, as promised when restrictions were tightened on Boxing Day. We are already in lockdown - or supposed to be!- so no Wales hasn’t been “forgotten”.

MushMonster · 05/01/2021 00:32

It is Tuesday now. He could announce it before Friday. Because people do have to organise the priority workers places or childcare.
I cannot understand this new fashion of asking parents to organise themselves for childcare in a few days or hours.

Theodoreb · 05/01/2021 04:53

Thanks to those with useful tips on how I find the welsh news it's not something I usually watch so pretty clueless so thank you.

An announcement about schools was made yesterday. 🤷🏻‍♀️
MushMonster · 05/01/2021 08:03

About whether they will go back on the 18th or not? Two weeks notice would be better than last time, when they announced it on a thursday afternoon, to close on the Monday.

I don't think so. Rates have gone down since schools have been closed. I think we'll be in line with Scotland and England. Kirsty Williams is just doing her usual merry dance of not following
