When are welsh schools closing ffs?

OP posts:
Longtalljosie · 05/01/2021 08:06

@Theodoreb re your local news - that can be changed. Are you Sky / Freeview / cable or...?

midnightstar66 · 05/01/2021 08:07

Forgotten by who? Im a bit confused by this. I'm sure in Wales the schools are communicating to parents whether they are closed and the government are working hard to work out their next move (schools are currently closed anyway) Outside of wales it's probably not relevant what welsh schools are doing so I'd not expect to be updated.

Longtalljosie · 05/01/2021 08:08

For example... www.freeview.co.uk/help/set-region-location

Longtalljosie · 05/01/2021 08:11

The national news should be sweeping it up though @midnightstar66 - even on a day when
BJ announces a lockdown you’ve got Welsh and Scottish viewers on BBC1 and the presenter who picks back up afterwards needs to remind those viewers what the situation is in their country.

Nomoresleeps · 05/01/2021 08:21

I follow the news avidly but tbh it is very confusing when the rules for different areas and nations are so different and also things change so fast so it can be hard to keep up.

MushMonster · 05/01/2021 09:04

We know schools will be on distance learning till the 18th from the news.
So far, from the school I only have an email reminding they will be back on the 11th, at least there is further instructions from the goverment.
It is further notice than last time when they announced on thursday afternoon that they would be closed on the Monday.
Childcare does need time to properly organise. Specially if you have to take time off or change shifts. They seriously need to give parents notice!
I know, at least was better than England's few hours, late evening!
On a positive note, the figures in Wales are going down, is at least 2 or 3 days now. London seem to be going down too.
Fingers crossed we keep in this path.

TitsOot4Xmas · 05/01/2021 09:17

Kirsty Williams is just doing her usual merry dance of not following

Erm, didn’t she announce first?! How can she follow when she’s unlikely to know what Bodge Job will announce after her?!

Well we were told they the schools were closed. There hasn't been any more info yet to update. Main stream media has updated non English nations eg Scotland as and when things have happened. The Welsh update is on Friday so unless it's brought forward the Uk as a nation will be notified then I'm sure.

I’m not sure you can say cases are going down, Wrexham has gone up again to 792/100000 and Anglesey, Conwy, Flintshire and Gwyneth are rising. Maybe South Wales are seeing an improvement but it isn’t reflected across the whole country.

Us lot up North might as well not exist as far those down in Cardiff and the Valleys are concerned. It’s ok though we are used to it. No doubt they’ll all be getting their vaccines before us as well 🙄
Nootkah · 05/01/2021 20:16

@Theodoreb if you follow the welsh government facebook page you will be able to see all the updates

Tickledtrout · 05/01/2021 20:20

School closures to 18/1 was announced before Christmas. There's a briefing scheduled for tomorrow following Welsh government meeting with local government chief executives

TitsOot4Xmas · 05/01/2021 23:33

School closures to 18/1 was announced before Christmas.

Eh? Where? None of the South Wales LAs said anything beyond 11th before Xmas.

HNY2021 · 06/01/2021 07:10

Likely to be homeschooling until half term ^

singsingbluesilver · 06/01/2021 07:14

Gwynedd rates are still very low.One of the lowest in the UK - and hopefully they will stay that way.

singsingbluesilver · 06/01/2021 07:15

And before the Christmas holidays it was announced that schools will have a staggered return - up until the 18th Jan so to be fair in Wales there was an early announcement - at least for secondary schools.

Yes. Not for all schools. RCT said nothing beyond no school on 4/5, vulnerable and keyworker children from 6th and the rest (primary) from 11th.

Even my daughter’s headteacher didn’t know about the 18th before the announcement this week. (I’m a governor and we didn’t know either.)

That article is dated 5th January..........
TitsOot4Xmas · 06/01/2021 08:53

Sorry, thought you were referring to my post about pre Xmas announcements.

midnightstar66 · 06/01/2021 09:14

This is how all the head teachers and council education leaders find out sadly. The English and Scottish ones find out in the news too the same as the rest of us.

TitsOot4Xmas · 06/01/2021 09:21

Which is why Tickledtrout’s post is perplexing.

RudbeckiaGoldstrum · 06/01/2021 09:24

It is hard to find Wales news, OP.

I have settled with WalesOnline even thought it is mostly about South Wales.

The North Wales Daily Post also has news, but are pretty nasty so I try and avoid reading it.

BBC is very thin.

RudbeckiaGoldstrum · 06/01/2021 09:26

Gwynedd is steady as they come. Average around 75, a bit up to 85, a bit down to 65 but with such a small population the mean does not change.

The numbers in Gwynedd are so steady they seem like fake data.

Zofloramummy · 06/01/2021 18:10

@RudbeckiaGoldstrum I may have meant Denbighshire!
