Have a national lockdown. Close the schools and absolutely everything we can do without then really go all out to vaccinate as fast as possible everyone over 65 ,all key workers especially people facing key workers such as teachers, bus drivers, in younger ages, all clinically extremely vulnerable. Use every space, halls, schools pubs etc. House to house. Use all manpower possible . Really go for it. As yes I will/ am a vaccinator.
Then reopen from a point of safety once this is done. Stop fannying around. Have a three month window that we know will really get the job done. Then work our way through the rest of the population till all over 18’s are done.

Why don’t you tweet Boris and suggest it?

I hope they hold all the kids back a year. Mine are really struggling already. Can't have another 6 months off school.

Well I think you will get your wish come 8pm.

But what would happen about the knock on effect for nurseries and universities? Also my daughter is in year 2 at an infant school, she'd be very bored not moving up to a junior school next year.

I think they need to sort out repeating the school year too.

annevonkleve · 04/01/2021 17:24

They can't repeat the school year because there is no capacity in nurseries etc to keep the kids for an extra year. And universities can't just operate with deferrals this September.

LST · 04/01/2021 17:29

No I don't mean physically, sorry. I meant in an academic way. I understand children will still need to start school in sept etc. I just don't think either of my boys will have caught up anywhere near where they need to be. I work full time so does their dad and my youngest is a handful to say the least. I dont know what the answer is. I just want to cry.
