Just had an e mail from secondary school to say opening as planned. But then seen that Boris is on at 8pm 🤔

Maybe the person responsible for sending it hadn’t seen the news yet? Or it was scheduled to go out and they forgot to cancel it?

SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch · 04/01/2021 16:01

I suppose until Boris deigns to let us know what the f is going on they can't say any different. I cannot possibly see how schools can remain open though

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 04/01/2021 16:25

Our school sent one at 15.05 with about ten pages of instructions and planning then another one ten minutes ago saying “ignore that, we will be in touch tomorrow”. I do not envy the senior leadership teams in schools right now, when anyone with half a brain could and did predict this days if not weeks ago.

PTW1234 · 04/01/2021 16:27

The schools find out at the same time as us. Some schools will be choosing to adopt an approach of, we continue as planned until told otherwise.

Which is largely sensible as they shouldn’t be seen to be adding to any speculation

PurpleDaisies · 04/01/2021 16:29

It’s a bloody nightmare for schools at the moment.

Lucieintheskye · 04/01/2021 16:44

They have no idea what's going on but so far the information is that schools will be open in some capacity tomorrow. Don't blame the schools, or question why they don't know more.

CodyBurns · 04/01/2021 16:48

Peston reporting schools will close (he seemed to have the inside track last time), if that is the case it sounds like they are planning to let schools know at the same time as everyone else! It would be absolutely ridiculous if they let schools open for 1 day, especially after declaring them ‘safe’ on Marr.

RememberSelfCompassion · 04/01/2021 16:51

Our school sent out an urgent request for key workers, "Just in case". It was clearly sent out after school after the Boris announcement. I really feel for them they have had to plan all xmas for opening, knowing full well it could change ... and it has :(

satnighttakeaway · 04/01/2021 16:53

Well, unless BJ had given the school notice in advance of his impromtu press conference how could they have known?

The email might have been auto scheduled and until 8 we don't know for sure what he's going to say anyway

RememberSelfCompassion · 04/01/2021 17:08

It is shocking what they are putting schools through. Many people's inset days today planning for in person work will be wasted, when they could have just announced b efore today.

Schools really do only find out when it's on the news.

TheSunIsStillShining · 04/01/2021 17:15

We were set to have a "how we're going to do this" Q&A with school at 7pm.
They just emailed saying there is no point as they have no idea what this fuckwit is going to announce. Rescheduled in 24 hrs.

I really feel sorry for them.

QueenPawPaws · 04/01/2021 17:16

My manager asked if we should use group WhatsApp or set up a zoom drinking game for the announcement HmmGrin given we have no idea if our work will be open or not

fireplaceburning · 04/01/2021 17:51

What do you expect!
If you'd received nothing from school then you'd be asking what was going on.

I've spent all day in meetings trying to get a plan together no doubt for it all to change after 8. We're keeping parents as up to date as possible

Cattitudes · 04/01/2021 17:58

I think you have an underlying false assumption that Boris knows what the f is going on.
