Do I need to self isolate???

I'm so confused. I've had it...developed symptoms on Dec 20th & tested positive on Dec 24th.

We all self isolated for 10 days. SI ended last week.

DH then developed symptoms yesterday & got a test. He has just received a positive result. No surprises there.

Obviously he needs to SI but do I? I didn't think so but a quick Google has confused me further.

I haven't got symptoms (apart from being knackered)

I think you do need to isolate again as you were all out of the isolation period. If he'd got symptoms within your isolation period then you wouldn't but as they started afterwards you do

If there was a gap between isolations then yes you do need to SI again (theory being he could have picked it up when he went out after isolation ended, this could be a different strain you aren’t immune to)

This is a potential downfall of shortening the isolation period from 14 days to 10, given that we know that the incubation period can be longer than 10 days...

Had you both been out since isolation ended?
In theory it could be a new infection.

Myshinynewname · 04/01/2021 14:43

Sorry it's absolutely rubbish but if you've finished your isolation period then yes you do. Have you or your dh been out at all?

We thought we were going to have the same dilemma here !! It is crazy because a family of 4,5,6etc could end up SI for weeks/ months! PHE advice is that you don’t have to self isolate again but the NHS guidelines say you do ! Luckily my sons test came back negative but otherwise I really don’t know what the correct answer would have been. I was going to discuss it with test and trace . My logic is that we have all been SI so I would have been the original source of the virus.

It all depends if you are still in the original isolation period or not. The problem is that household isolation was cut from 14 days to 10 days despite the incubation period being 14 days. You would have had more time for symptoms to develop and less likely to have been out and about if it remained at 14 days. I will show screenshots from the 14 day and 10 day isolation periods.

Ah bollocks. Yeah, that infographic was the first thing I found. But turns out, yes I do need to SI again. Sad

Ah well. Thank god for online delivery.
