Am I a key worker?

I work in retail, but in a plumbers merchant.
We sell boilers and parts to enable plumbers to fix or install central heating and other plumbing items.
Plumbers are still working during lockdowns and plumbing merchants are deemed as essential so stayed open throughout.
Last time we had a full lock down I was furloughed so could be off work with my children.
I've read the guidelines and I'm essential to the gas sector I suppose as we are supplying items, but it's not terribly clear.
Would I be classed as a key worker for school provision or not?
DH still working as he's construction.
Thank you!

I've just seen that plumbers are key workers. Would I be a key worker though as I'm supplying their parts?

Probably yes but you need a letter from your employer anyway so best to speak to them directly.

Most LA require both parents to be key workers but not all.

Ok. Thanks.
Hopefully schools in our area won't shut but we shall see.

Yes I know people who work for the wider supply chain who were classed as key workers and received a letter from their company to show police if they were stopped/schools for a key worker child place

I know we are classed as an essential business, hence being open throughout, but wasn't sure if that made me a key worker.

I'm a cleaner supporting key workers in the council offices so I'm.classed as a key worker too, so I'd say you are as well.

Yes you will be.

Great thanks all.

This is the Government guidance, last updated 31st December.
You will probably need an employer's letter.

It looks like you're a key worker but your DH is not. Construction is not included (I can't see it)

ivfbeenbusy · 03/01/2021 21:57

With construction it depends very much on the projects the company work on - I know loads of
Construction workers who have been classed as key/essential workers because they work for firms who do jobs like - maintenance, repairs, have clients which include hospitals, schools, supermarkets etc, work on the railways, or highways

Having a nightmare.
Work in a plumbers merchant.
Work are saying I'm essential and won't furlough me as the business needs me as we are crazy busy.
School are getting shirty and saying I'm not a key worker but an essential worker, as someone working in a pet shop would be so not entitled to a school place.
I can't work as I've got children at home now, but if I don't work I won't get paid.
