COVID-19 app notification?

I went out for a meal on the 30th for the first time this year. New Year's Day myself and DP get a notification to say we've been in contact and must self isolate.
Sorry to sound ignorant but how does this work? I'm back at work tomorrow so would my employer be breaking the law to now ask me to go in? What is the fine for leaving home? What about taking DS to school as we are both being told not to leave the house?

It is not a legal requirement to isolated based on an app notification.

I would contact the place you went and ask if they can shed any light. Was it a fellow diner who tested positive who sat on the other side on a well ventilated restaurant? Was it your waiter? Or was it a bar staff who was never near you but left their phone number the bar close to you?

Yes your employer can't expect you to come in. If you can't work from home and they won't pay you sick pay then you can claim for gov benefits.
If both you and your DH have been told to isolate, your son can still go to school as long as neither you nor he have any symptoms - but you'll need to find someone else to drop him off.
How many days have you got left on the notification? (I expect all schools will be closed within a week anyway)

@Santastealer they can't disclose any of that information due to privacy.

It was only myself, DP and DH who went for the meal. It's the only place we have been this week so it must have been there.
It says we have to isolate until 11.59pm next Sunday, so near as damn it Monday. I didn't know if it was a legal thing or advice, if fines are issued for leaving the house or what. We haven't got anyone else to drop DS at school - he's only at playschool anyway so my instinct is to not send him.
I work in a farm shop (it's been closed over Christmas) so I can't work from home.

Typo - myself, DP and DS who went for a meal!! I don't have a husband and a partner haha!!!

Hi twinkletoes, I just got a text from contact on the 30th aswell, was told to isolate myself from the rest of the family until the 8th.
Feeling pretty weepy about it and scared actually. My health never really recovered from what we took to be infection back in the first wave (although no testing then). And I am really worried about reinfection... it is my dd's birthday on the 5th. I know my close contact and she is now really poorly, poor thing Sad
Sorry, didn't mean to make that the 'all about me show' Blush just bit scared and lonely here

PleasantVille · 03/01/2021 13:54

Those dates don't seem right, have you checked that your app has updated for the change from 14 to 10 days isolation? If your contact was on the 30th you wouldn't be isolating to the end of the 10th I don't think

Well spotted you're right. It says I have to isolate until 11.59 on the 9th, not 10th. I did go to the supermarket on my own on New Year's Eve come to think of it? I assumed it would be from the restaurant on the 30th with us being both contacted and the fact we checked in there? Very confusing! x

I'm sorry to hear this, @oscarandelliesdad just know you're not alone. I think I prefer it this way and having no idea at all who my 'close contact' was as then at least I have no idea how unwell they might or might not be. It's more to err on the side of caution I'm sure, so please try not to worry too much Daffodildo you usually work? Are you having to stay at home if so? x

Thanks twinkletoes, they are kind words Daffodil
I'm a teacher and was due in on the fifth to organise next steps / lists of kids that need places (including my own dc) it was in my primary school that the close encounter was registered. Serves me right for going in during the holidays! - fingers crossed we both keep well xx
