www.schoolcovidmap.org.uk

Tells you the case rate in area of school catchment. May be useful for school staff/parents deciding what to do.

466 here tier 4

AldiAisleofCrap · 03/01/2021 12:12

@LoudBatPerson The community infection rate doesn't necessarily translate to the school infection rate. busy morning Boris bbc and mumsnet.

MrsPernicious · 03/01/2021 12:12

@RedskyAtnight , worth reading the school map methodology. They are combining neighbouring MSOAs to get a more realistic catchment area.

I do worry that loads of the infection rate figures are way out as they are using population counts from the last census. In some areas this will be way out.

PleasantVille · 03/01/2021 12:13

@canigooutyet

It’s not really up to date

The data was updated on Saturday 2nd January 2021 and reports the number of cases for 22nd December to 28th December.

All data only goes up to 5 days earlier, that's been the case since the govt search website thing started months ago

I'd guess it's not available in real time or needs to be checked and input to the system.

TheSultanofPingu · 03/01/2021 12:13

169 here tier 4.

MaudesMum · 03/01/2021 12:14

Town that we're in has rates of under 200, the catchment area for the senior schools has just over 200. However, since Tiers are done on a county-wide basis we're in Tier 4.

That's interesting about the population data, I hadn't thought about that before. Do you know if there's any way to find estimates of changes?

Popcornriver · 03/01/2021 12:15

Over 500 Tier 4

FreekStar · 03/01/2021 12:17

The rate for my area 177- we are are tier 3-the rate when we went into tier 3 was over 500 and there was no talk of closing schools then!

greenlynx · 03/01/2021 12:19

It shows me the local rates and very high risk alert as we are in tier 3 so nothing new. There is no difference in rates for different schools but I know that the rates are different as it’s published in local newspaper. I agree that these data might help for primaries as they have small local catchment but not for secondaries, e.g DD’s secondary has a very wide catchment way out of the town and another secondary near by is the same.
I would love to see amount of cases for each school published weekly somewhere e.g on a council website or at least school website.
I wonder is there such a thing somewhere?

wantmorenow · 03/01/2021 12:19

851 but down from 1155 last week Shock

Academic for now as I had positive test yesterday so we're all isolating now. No-one to cover my classes either so school stuffed.

Pastanred · 03/01/2021 12:19

for reassurance liverpool was 750 for weeks in october and all schools were open fully and with testing dropped to 98 so its not all doom and gloom.

ivfbeenbusy · 03/01/2021 12:20

280 in my area - happy for DD to go to reception class at that level - only classes which have experienced having to isolate at her school since September have been the older kids in year 6

heydoggee · 03/01/2021 12:21

631 here. Confused

Drogonssmile · 03/01/2021 12:21

Ours is 180 per 100k. In NW tier 4 area. School meant to open on Tuesday and we've just had a message saying that is going ahead: All kids in on Tuesday.

Sickofthiscrapp · 03/01/2021 12:23

Mine is 598 on 100k. School opened. Tier 4.

ceeveebee · 03/01/2021 12:24

The delays are because of the time taken to actually process the tests - generally the cases reported on a specific date will relate to tests taken in the previous 3-5 days and so the figures for the most recent days are incomplete.

Whilst this is a useful tool as it’s hyper-local, its worth noting that based on ONS surveys, only around 10% of primary school cases are picked up by testing (as the estimated true rate is 2000/100,000 for primary school age nationally, vs between 170-300 per 100,000 tested positive for primary age per the gov figures). So not a very reliable measure of actual incidence of COVID.

Chewbecca · 03/01/2021 12:24

For me it just gives the borough’s stats which are readily available anyway so seems a bit of a waste of effort re-presenting the same data in a different format. Am I missing something?

MrsPernicious · 03/01/2021 12:25

population estimates

My local area is going to need new boundaries, it is now one of the biggest MSOAs, loads of new housing developement.

Nettleskeins · 03/01/2021 12:25

700 up from 570 last week. Tier 4.
Tbh I think a lot more people will get tested round here if schools are closed, as they have nothing to lose by doing so..and are already stuck at home. It isn't just Christmas mixing, of which I saw very little. We had so many cases in first wave I wonder if cases have already peaked. Not many hospitalisations this time.

Nettleskeins · 03/01/2021 12:26

Schools ARE closed here btw.

ReceptionTA · 03/01/2021 12:27

As a union rep in communication with staff from schools in many different areas who are trying to decide what to do for the best, I'm shocked you weren't aware of the gov.uk interactive map, so there's no need t be pissy with posters who don't get excited at your link OP.

I'm not sure knowing the rate per ward is extremely helpful, as pupils and staff don't always live in the ward where they attend school. Most of the children at the school I work at live in a neighbouring ward. You're going to have to start using it as a predictive tool to know how to act.

Chanelle2021 · 03/01/2021 12:28

Hi there I really need some advice..... regarding my three year old daughter... my ex and staying over arrangements

PhoebeSnow · 03/01/2021 12:29

Does anyone have any information for Scottish schools at all?

PaperMonster · 03/01/2021 12:29

Thanks, I’d forgotten about this site. The Government one is a bit hit and miss on my devices, so useful to look at that one.

We’re 220 per 100k which equates to 18 cases across three villages, but two of those villages aren’t catchment for our school and we have a lot who come from out of the borough in a higher rate area.
