www.schoolcovidmap.org.uk

Tells you the case rate in area of school catchment. May be useful for school staff/parents deciding what to do.

How does the calculator help?
Schools cannot go against what the government say. Some schools tried and where threatened with legal action.

How does it help parents decide?
Government have decided when they go back because according to them schools are fine

xyzandabc · 03/01/2021 11:54

This works for schools where catchment is local, so most primary school and some secondary. School my kids go to is already over 600 according to this but that's just the local area, pupils come from up to 18 miles away depending on the year group and areas some of them live in are T4 where all primary schools are closed so I would imagine well over 600. They also take plenty from out of catchment each year so again not particularly accurate.

ThornAmongstRoses · 03/01/2021 11:54

206 here - I’m really undecided about what to do.

LemonTT · 03/01/2021 11:55

@Mintjulia

I don't think that's useful at all. It doesn't tell me known rates at the school, and I already know the local rate from the gov/bbc. So what does it add?
Exactly it doesn’t add any information that isn’t already publicly available and with added information 🤷‍♀️Why use Union funds to develop this tool?
Toocold · 03/01/2021 11:55

Mmm I think it might be a bit misleading and inaccurate as the results for where I live and the school are really high due to the surrounding area but there have been no cases of covid in my rural area and ward. I also live on the edge of another tier and the results are totally different, closer to that tier than the tier I’m actually in.

Monkeytennis97 · 03/01/2021 11:55

900+where I teach.

MrsPernicious · 03/01/2021 11:55

Cross post @RedskyAtnight Grin , the schools map seems to be more up to date, the interactive map is easier to navigate but always 6 days behind.
Probably best to have a look at both.

RememberSelfCompassion · 03/01/2021 11:56

Its scare that numbers over 100 are now "reassuring" when they used ti be considered scary 😔.its everywherw isnt it.

RedskyAtnight · 03/01/2021 11:59
Thanks it gives the rate by Middle layer Super Output Areas and is more up to date than the governments interactive map coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map
They look to me as if they use the same data (the most up to date, which has a 5 day lag)?

You can see Middle Layer Super Output Areas on the government map if you zoom in (at least I can in my area; I've not checked everywhere!)

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/01/2021 11:59

513 per 100,000 here according to that site, I wonder what information it’s using. Our school’s catchment is the whole county, and I I wi that rates vary significantly in different parts of the county. The primary 100m down the road has a much smaller catchment area but the same rate according to that site.

That's a brilliant tool, thank you, had no idea that existed.
I was also expecting the first link to be something specific to schools, it seems to be the same thing as the one we've all been using since the start although I can see that it's useful if you don't know the postcode or area that your school is in as you can type in the school name.

Is there such a thing that tells you about the school itself.

Useruseruserusee · 03/01/2021 12:01

1196 here. No choice but to send DS into key worker provision as we are both key workers.

nancy75 · 03/01/2021 12:02

906 for my dds school. She is yr 11 so will be expected to start back on 11th Jan.
Can’t imagine it’s going to fall much in the next 7 days & seems ridiculous that they will be going ahead with these numbers.

cheninblanc · 03/01/2021 12:03

951 here. But my dd going in as a key worker child

canigooutyet · 03/01/2021 12:03

Tier 4. Looked at a few of the local schools and boroughs the schools cover. Minimum is mid 600’s. From all the other tools on line this was common knowledge.
We haven’t gone below 400 since the beginning.

blazinglightonthehill · 03/01/2021 12:03

@Mintjulia well lots of primaries have a very small catchment area so it will tell you what's going on in the immediate area surely? Not hard to work out

RedskyAtnight · 03/01/2021 12:03

I've just checked and they are both currently using the "last 7 days" to mean cases between 22nd and 28th December.
canigooutyet · 03/01/2021 12:07

It’s not really up to date

The data was updated on Saturday 2nd January 2021 and reports the number of cases for 22nd December to 28th December.

PinkSkyBlue · 03/01/2021 12:07

Thanks for the link

Littlepond · 03/01/2021 12:08

906 here 😩

Bluebaubles · 03/01/2021 12:08

It is interesting. At first I thought it was just the boroughs figures, but it does give you the surrounding areas, so our borough is 250, but our surrounding area is 230.
It would be interesting to see rates for the actual
Schools.

LindaEllen · 03/01/2021 12:09

211/100,000. It's not as bad as a lot of places, but is rising.

Sausagessizzling · 03/01/2021 12:09

Realise it's not perfect but it gives an indication at least. For example the school I work in gives a number of 300ish, a school in another town I'm talking to has a rate of 800ish.

OP posts:
EmbarrassingAdmissions · 03/01/2021 12:10

We're 1400+ per 100K. Other areas go up to 1700+ per 100K.

In my local area we were
