Conflict between NHS app and emails/texts from test and trace

Went for a test on Thursday, got positive result this morning.

The text included a code to put into the NHS Covid app, which I did, and it is telling me that my isolation finishes at 23.59 on the 9th Jan.

However, emails and texts from the NHS are telling me I have to isolate until the 10th (inclusive). I suppose I will do that - it's not as if I have anywhere exciting to go next Sunday, but if it is a nice day I would go for a walk.

Is it any wonder people are confused?

When did symptoms start?

I think the guidance says first day of symptoms is day 0 and then its 10 full days isolation which would take you to midnight of the 10th (if counting Thursday 31st as day 0)

Your isolation period includes the day your symptoms started (or the day your test was taken if you do not have symptoms), and the next 10 full days. This means that if, for example, your symptoms started at any time on the 15th of the month (or if you did not have symptoms but your first positive COVID-19 test was taken on the 15th), your isolation period ends at 23:59 hrs on the 25th.

Symptoms started and test was taken on the same day (31st). So it sounds like 10th is right. Doesn’t explain why the app gave me a different answer since it was working on the same information.

Thanks all - I will err on the side of caution.
