Where is everyone, why has there been no statement on today’s news, even a “we will meet shortly to review” tweet....

Just something, anything!

How the fuck can they possibly leave the teachers and parents scratching their heads with no plan of what’s to happen in 3 short days and with the news full of reports and scientific and professional findings of how absolutely ludicrous it is to send children and teachers back...

You honestly couldn’t make this shit show up, someone need to put a penny in wee Gav and introduce him to his backbone...

It shouldn’t surprise anyone. This govt have been behind the curve on almost every single deacon since the start of this pandemic. We should be rioting in the streets at the incompetence, which has and will lead to many thousands of extra deaths.
I hope the teachers refuse to open the schools.

I fully expect the vaccine rollout to be equally appalling.

@Remmy123

What's the difference now where we were from September?

Why is everyone hellbent on schools closing.

Have you not seen the graphs of the hospital admissions now compared to September?

I think we'll hear nothing before next weekend. Primary schools won't all close until even more people are dying.

Meredithgrey1 · 02/01/2021 18:02

@Emmie12345

We got an email from school today re arrangements for next week onwards - year groups going back , testing etc

This is secondary

Why is anyone waiting for another annnouncement ?

They already changed their minds about the London primary schools yesterday and said now they are all to stay closed. Now the NEU has said members shouldn’t go to work on Monday. And Brighton and Hove council have said they are advising primaries to stay closed. So it is still uncertain, particularly for the rest of Tier 4.

The thing is no where in my OP did I say I wanted a school closure announcement, I do think they should but my point was in a time of uncertainty when they’ve promised testing, a safe environment to send our children to, the resources to also give teachers a safe working place but every reputable report and scientific finding completely counteracts that why are they at least not arguing back and providing evidence to show us that all theses things they are promising are true.

Fine keep the schools open and teachers and children where they should be but explain to us their fool proof and reliable plan and how they are going to keep everyone safe.

Their silence suggests to me they with don’t have a clue or give a shit and neither of those options are good enough

I've just said similar on another thread but putting the onus on this to teachers, the lowest in the pecking order is rather cruel.

They have the least power, worry about their colleagues who would have to cover their work.

They may not know who else is also planning action in their schools.

The ht is also planning legal action so maybe all these things will come together.

@SweetPetrichor

Agree it’s a lovely tarantula (speaking as someone who has 4 on her bedside table and another three elsewhere in the house Grin). But he’s an arse to have kept it on his desk at work - he must have known there would have been at least some colleagues left uncomfortable by this.

Plus I wouldn’t put any of my beloved tarantulas through the stress of a noisy office environment and the risk of office cleaners using sprays/cleaning products nearby, which can be very damaging to little spider lungs.

Sorry all, back to the point. I’m expecting a last minute u-turn. Seems to be the way of things.

The corona situation is changing rapidly at the moment, so people are quite right in anticipating a possible change in strategy. England are out of sync with the rest of the UK because of the total incompetence of our government. The least a respectable government would give is a brief daily update, but no.... just let people guess how or if the schools policy might change.

StacySoloman · 02/01/2021 18:36

Government have instructed (most) primary schools to open on Monday,

They aren't going to make an announcement - they're going to wait and see how many local authorities defy them, and how many individual teachers stay at home.

simonisnotme · 02/01/2021 18:38

years 1-6 may be off (waiting on someone who has a bloody clue) but our EYFS are expected to be in. (west mids)

SansaSnark · 02/01/2021 18:39

I'm not really sure what you expect from the government?

They announced their plan- teaching unions have said they aren't happy with it, and the NEU have suggested action for their members to take.

At this stage, I think the relationship between teachers and the DfE has broken down to a level where I'm not sure school opening could be guaranteed on Monday. And I'm not sure what the government could put in place to make it safe.

I think they are hoping that not enough NEU members will join the action, and schools will be able to carry on as planned.

Happychristmashohoho · 02/01/2021 19:05

No one cared about us in the NW when our rates were sky high in November. Our hospitals had more positive patients than April and schools stayed open. The rates up here are lower now than November, so I’ll be a bit hacked off if schools have to close.

Albeit, I think the government should have planned an extra week of holiday/online learning before and after the Xmas hols.
