Cold outside fog breath

I am outside walking. It is a cold day. I see when I breathe out, my breath is like a fog.

Would something like this be an infection/exposure risk? Should I stay away from a busy walking path?

I always thought outside would be safe enough.

It's no different to normally is it, just that you can see it now!!!

TammyHullfigure · 02/01/2021 14:45

Outside is very low risk .

I'm not an expert but I think the cold is just showing you what always happens. Covid germs don't go as far as the stream in your breath they drop to the ground sooner. BUT my understanding is very limited on this! Hopefully someone better informed will come along soon.

*steam of your breath sorry

it's a good demonstration of why 2m social distancing should still be followed ...

I was awaiting in the supermarket click and collect queue of cars. No one had masks on, staff or customers, it was so cold you could see the staff guys’ breath billowing all over the customers packing their car boots and vice versa. If this new strain is as transmissible as it seems then it’s probably safer in the supermarket with distancing, masks and Perspex

What's really disturbing is when someone is vaping and walking quite far ahead of you and you still get a lungful of fake strawberry of whatever flavour they have just breathed out. That really hammers it home.

That always makes me feel sick. Knowing I'm breathing in something that's just come out of someone's lungs Envy

Katie517 · 02/01/2021 15:53

It’s the same as always you can just see it because it’s cold Hmm

I think it has been well established that airborne particles travel further and are suspended for longer in cold air, hence why there were so many outbreaks in food processing factories. I don’t think they travel as far in warmer/humid environments. I am trying to give other people a wide berth on pavements etc and will be wearing a mask in busy areas. It particularly annoys me when I’m out for a walk and joggers are exhaling huge clouds of air when they run past far too close
