The critical worker list

Am I right in thinking that the critical worker list is shorter than last time?

Also can schools say they will only offer a place if both parents are critical workers outside the home?

Do you have a link? I was interested that they'd started talking about critical workers rather than key workers

Char2015 · 02/01/2021 12:02

I'm sure it's the same.

Margeryprongs · 02/01/2021 12:04

To qualify - my dh works as a civillian contractor for the m of d and I am on the critical list in health but I can work remotely

Am I missing something but it looks like journalists and building aren't there? Also do both parents need to be on it to qualify or can schools decide how they offer places?

Sorry I'm being daft. It's the same isn't it

@Margeryprongs construction isn’t on thereAngry

Candycane2020 · 02/01/2021 12:27

The critical worker thing is different to a key worker. Critical worker is a person in a job that is critical to the response to Covid 19.

TitsOot4Xmas · 02/01/2021 12:32

Yes, they can require both parents to be key workers.

A Local Authority near me also requires both keyworker partners to be unable to work from home.

Margeryprongs · 03/01/2021 12:20

Thanks for all responses. So the interpretation of the critical worker list is up to Las then? All so confusing

What about key workers that may be working from home but doing virtual patient consultations? How can those be done adequately while the parent is looking after children / home schooling? At the very least there are confidentiality issues.

The construction industry was on there last time and it isn't now. Which is a bit weird as the construction industry was one constantly mentioned as essential and safe to work last time.

Am hoping we aren't heading for a very strict lockdown where they tell the construction industry to stay home. Can cope with kids off school but not dh 🤣🤣

@Margeryprongs
Construction isn’t on there anymore.
Yes, schools CAN say both parents have to be critical workers.
