@Flaxmeadow

Think you're forgetting that some of us have seen a lot of your posts since March. You haven't been polite, you have been frequently very belittling.

Nonsense
What happens is teachers, or political activists or both, start one of these many many threads, and when someone has the temerity to disagree, with strike action for example, its "shut up, you're being mean to teachers, go away". Happens everytime, because no one is allowed to disagree

Ok.

I mean, you're not going to convince me that you have always been polite, because I've seen a lot of your posts. You wrote them. They were belittling.

itsgettingweird · 02/01/2021 21:15

Teachers should not go on strike during this crisis and if they do, the general public will not support it. That is my opinion whether you like or not

I've not heard anything about teachers striking?

The news I've heard is that NUHT and NEU have said they'd support staff who refuse to go into the building due to section 44 of the H and S act and deliver education remotely instead.

Can you link to the new news that they are striking? I'd like to read it.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:15

@SansaSnark bin men work for private companies often so would vary massively in areas , I don't ever recall a bin strike here yet do recall teachers ones different unions different days

year5teacher · 02/01/2021 21:16

I can't believe it's taken until now to get the "we went to school so we can have an opinion on what teachers should do" response.

I went to a supermarket today. Can I tell supermarket staff what they should and should not do? I've been to hospital, so I can weigh in on threads by NHS staff and tell THEM what they need to be doing.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:17

@Hercwasonasnowball i didnt think we had this data that was one of the issues ?

MadameTuffington · 02/01/2021 21:17

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation

you need to take onboard the following points re retail staff - specifically supermarket workers who are very much at risk and who earn minimum wage or just above

The ONS data is not showing supermarket staff to be getting covid at the same rate as education staff.

Your other points just highlight that you haven't been into a school since September because otherwise you'd know how different they are to a supermarket. Secondary teacher here who is in as much contact as a supermarket worker with 350+ students per day, and in the same small unventilated for up to two hours with approx 100 different students per day.

A lot of professions are suffering at the moment.

And I fully support any action they wish to take to be safer in work.

Like I said, I fully support what you are doing until there is satisfactory testing in place at which point hopefully your working environment will be safer.

My best friend teaches at a secondary school and is seeking alternative employment - she’s had enough.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:17

@year5teacher no it was that we are allowed an opinion not tell them what to do you have twisted words

Comefromaway · 02/01/2021 21:19

We’ve had bin men/women and post men/women refuse to work in particular areas locally that they feel unsafe in.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:19

@year5teacher yes some on here have told careworkers and nhs to strike etc , your effectively telling the goverment what they should do as well , have you been an mp or a scientist in virology as most of us haven't but we all have opinions on how this pandamic should be managed

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:20

@Comefromaway think more about pay more often than not and also local

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2021 21:20

Postal workers walked out for a day in about April from some sorting offices due to dangerous working conditions. Transport workers threatened it.

TableFlowerss · 02/01/2021 21:21

**Why?

I'd love it if other sectors followed suit**

Don’t be absolutely ridiculous

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:21

@Piggywaspushed getting my post late not quite the same as a careworker not going into an old lady to provide care or a nurse not treating a patient

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:22

@Piggywaspushed its totally not possible for some to do a mass walkout in certain jobs

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2021 21:22

When was this teachers' strike you recall done??

Btw, Section 44 = NOT A STRIKE

Beebityboo · 02/01/2021 21:22

The biggest twist for me in all this is that I agree with...Jeremy Hunt.

WherethebejesusisGav · 02/01/2021 21:22

but some of them may have been a teacher ? They may be fully aware of what working as a teacher is you may not know as they might not choose to tell you this , so your making assumptions straight away

Oh for crying out loud.

I give up.

Yes, some parents are teachers. By and large, this gets mentioned, either by the kid or the parent or we know because we’ve worked together in some way.

Would you like me to qualify my statement with “obviously if the parent is a teacher, then they know about teaching”

And re MPs - their literal job is to represent their constituents so....

Comefromaway · 02/01/2021 21:23
@Comefromaway think more about pay more often than not and also local
In my area it has definitely been about safety eg delivering to blocks of flats in high crime areas/collecting bins from houses known for drug abuse.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2021 21:23

I didn't compare careworkers to postal workers. You, or someone else, said should postal workers walk out? I pointed out they had?

Careworkers threatened to as did the nurses unions back in April.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/01/2021 21:23

@Piggywaspushed i never said it was a strike and I support it
They were probably 6/7 years ago when my ds were in primary as i had one off and one in one day and another day the other way round

GetOffYourHighHorse · 02/01/2021 21:24

'Secondary teacher here who is in as much contact as a supermarket worker with 350+ students per day, and in the same small unventilated for up to two hours with approx 100 different students per day.'

I must admit I didn't realise teachers were in close contact with 350+ students a day in a small windowless room, or 100 different students a day for 2 hours. That is serious I agree. Why don't they rotate it, half the school in for a month the other half home learning. No doubt i'll get a stream of mockery but seriously this has been going on since March, why isn't some kind of rotation in place?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 02/01/2021 21:24

fully support what you are doing until there is satisfactory testing in place at which point hopefully your working environment will be safer.

Part of the issues with schools is that the testing won't make things safer because it is being used to replace isolation.

donewith I have memories of a graph showing infections by setting but can't find it now. Will keep searching.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 02/01/2021 21:25

@GetOffYourHighHorse Because the government explicitly banned rotas.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2021 21:25

I ahve been a teacher for almost 30 years and been out on strike once. It is such an inaccurate portrayal of teachers.
