Get

You want teachers to not be paid for teaching online?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 02/01/2021 19:35

'they don't sit two meters away. Most get up, walk around, help individuals with work, it's impossible to sit and stay two meters away. Staff rooms provide tea, fridges etc, some staff rota who will stay with a class and dash to the staffroom to get lunch to take back.'

O.m.g. For the love of God compromise. Tell the dc to stay sat and don't walk round. Take a flask in! Take a cool box in. Its painful to see all this haplessness.

TaxTheRatFarms · 02/01/2021 19:37

Because that’s what will be happening. We will be teaching live and recorded and keyworker/vulnerable. Just not on the school building. Has that not been clear from any of the articles/threads?

Panickingpavlova · 02/01/2021 19:37

Noble, we do both, live teach and record.
The benefit is that you can monitor who signs in do register, chase them, keep them on a time table and routine, and make sure they are interacting.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 19:37

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'It’s almost like teachers are real human people with different opinions and circumstances to each other! Who knew? I certainly didn’t.'

Yes but the same teachers rightly want safety then argue they don't like live lessons. They aren't 'the gold standard'. News flash! None of this is the gold standard!!! Jesus.

You do realise that live lessons aren't the only option for remote learning?

No, I don't think you do.

Panickingpavlova · 02/01/2021 19:39

And on some lessons we use Google docs, communication by typing on hangouts, set the work, do registers and then go into their documents so you can see who is or isn't working, assist by writing comments directly onto it

SmileEachDay · 02/01/2021 19:39

Getoff what job do you do?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 02/01/2021 19:40

'You want teachers to not be paid for teaching online?'

Of course I want them paying. My point was that is why it is 'article... ' and not a strike because I believe then they don't get paid.

Just get the DfE to agree to face covers which was on the cards anyway wasnt it? Take sandwiches in, try really hard to avoid staff rooms and Stay. Sat. 2m. Away.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 02/01/2021 19:41

They sit at the front 2m away. Granted i do think face covers should be worn in class, I've no idea why they aren't.

2m away? There's not the space in the rooms I teach in.

Maybe the best that can be said is that people who have never seen schools in action have no understanding of how difficult it is for both pupils and staff to keep safe.

Not to mention the fact that it is ethical of school staff to question what will happen in schools this term, with the cases as high as they are and the new variant in the community.

PrincessNutNuts · 02/01/2021 19:42

@Flaxmeadow

Look at the state of the coronavirus board now. Completely overrun by bleeding heart middle class political activism and political point scoring, in the heat of a pandemic crisis. Shameful for calling strike action. An utter disgrace
People on MUMSnet care about children shocker.
FrippEnos · 02/01/2021 19:43

But live lessons were the gold standard, all the usual names said so during round one of this and anything less was letting the children down.

How can this pinnacle of excellence have dropped from its lofty heights?

Could it be because all these know it all non teachers got it wrong?

Say it ain't so. :)

AaronPurr · 02/01/2021 19:43

Their unions are calling for strike action during a pandemic crisis!

Goodness me this is relentless.

Teachers are not striking, despite what flax is trying to insinuate

Have you ever been in a primary school? More specifically in the infant section??
whatshalliget · 02/01/2021 19:44

No some of them are calling for a section 44 walk out on the basis that schools are not safe, because of the pandemic.

The pandemic is shit for all of us.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 02/01/2021 19:44

'what job do you do?'

I'm hardly going to divulge personal info. Jobs I have had have require a high level of problem solving, trouble shooting, compromise, getting on with it while adhering to strict H&S policies and procedures. I don’t get this 'we want to be safe but the fridge is in the staff room I can't be confined to the class even if it is for my own safety' mentality.

SmileEachDay · 02/01/2021 19:45

Their unions are calling for strike action during a pandemic crisis!

Their unions are calling for a safer working environment. Until then, the unions are suggesting to members that the best way to mitigate risk is to teach remotely, whilst still providing in school care for a reduced number of students.

Which bit of that are you having trouble understanding, Flax?

FrippEnos · 02/01/2021 19:45

@SmileEachDay

Getoff what job do you do?
I believe that she is paid to goad teachers on MN.

She's not very good and won't meet her targets, but, bless her, she tries.

No. Its article 44 because many school settings are unsafe as they have been, given the current rate of infection in school age children.

I am 2m away from my class because I'm lucky to have a large enough classroom and supportive management. I wear a mask when closer than these 2m. I've not been in the staff room since September and eat in my classroom alone. It's a massive compromise in terms of teaching but not nearly as much as remote learning. I still caught covid - I presume because I am in a small room with 32 people for 5 hours a day, and have to get close to them sometimes to put plasters on or comfort children. At least 5 colleagues also tested positive in the same week.

If our setting isn't safe, I can't see how any state school can be.

SmileEachDay · 02/01/2021 19:46

Sure, dude. Of course they have.

TaxTheRatFarms · 02/01/2021 19:47

Oh ok Get You’ve heard one teacher complain about a minor thing and extrapolate that to the whole teaching being unable to problem solve?

Gotcha.

Abraxan · 02/01/2021 19:47

They sit at the front 2m away.

In schools?

Not in my school they don't! I work in an infant school and there is NO social distancing at all.

As I cross classes and bubbles the guidelines say that, where possible, I should try to SD. However the children are aged 4-7y so no, that simply doesn't happen.

In many classrooms it is impossible to remain 2m away from many students.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 19:50

I'm hardly going to divulge personal info

Someone has a job that they don't want to admit to.

Let's speculate:

Daily Mail Journalist
Telegraph Journalist
Secretary of State for Education

GetOffYourHighHorse · 02/01/2021 19:51

'Sure, dude. Of course they have.'

Yes indeed and I could certainly manage a flask if the staff room was off limits and to tell kids to stay seated. 'Oh but we must walk round the class'. No, you mustn't!' it isn’t rocket science.
