Critical worker?

Evening all,

Can anyone provide some clarity please?

DP works in a car body shop and is main source of family income and must work.

I work in NHS administration and due to staff absence it is likely my employer would like me to send my primary aged DC to school.

I have received a letter from the school following the recent announcement of school closures. The letter states that only the children whose parents are BOTH critical workers can attend.

Would my DC be able to do you think?

I'm awaiting confirmation from the school which probably won't be until Monday.

Ideally I'd like to keep them home but as I said above my employer would probably rather I send them in if possible.

I'm just after a possible heads up really Smile

Thank you.

Couldn’t at our school. You should look to see if unpaid leave or if admin could you work from home? Yes I know if you are reception that isn’t possible 😂! But obviously some admin tasks are!

Note childcare bubbles are still allowed so if that helps...grandparents etc that is allowed this time.

Thank you for your reply. Not reception but most work is passed to me in paper form so it would make WFH very difficult but I will mention it to employer. Sadly no GP help. If the school say no then it's out of my hands I guess!

Was your DP classed as an essential worker last time?
I would guess so as without him people wouldn't have their cars. I am under the impression that all NHS workers are essential (I have family members in admin in A&E). Speak to the school and see what they say, but judging but what you've said it sounds like you should both be classed as essential!

Car repair likely counts as cars are needed to keep other key workers moving.

I would say yes and if school say no I would push for it, could employer maybe do a letter for school

I worked evening shifts during previous school closures but this time I am unable to so this is relatively new to me!

Yes I'm sure I count. Just not sure about DP.

Good idea about the letter if it comes to it. Thanks.
