@noblegiraffe have you even read the article?
"Teachers demand the closure of every school in the country"
"Joint general secretary of the national education union said the government had corrected an obviously nonsensical position, adding that ministers must do their duty by closing ALL primary and secondary schools to contain the virus".

I never "fell" for anything, I read past the headline, unlike yourself.
The headline says stay closed.

The government have already closed a lot of them. Some think the decision to close some primaries and not others (in accordance with SAGE) is nonsensical.

The government think that schools may have to remain closed beyond the 18th and the Telegraph is positioning teachers (not the unions because they already complained when the Mail tried that) as being behind it.

We are in a tier 4 area and my dc primary school hasn’t had a single case and the high school has had 22 since September (out of 1200 pupils)
PPE should be properly used, staff should be allowed masks but schools should stay open.

jessstan1 · 02/01/2021 00:57

Freezing cold too, Yubaba, as witnessed by many parents on here. I certainly couldn't work in those conditions even with layers of clothing and have no idea how children manage who aren't moving around much during a school day; they even eat at their desks, poor kids.

It is very difficult for working parents though.

coldcoffeefy · 02/01/2021 01:02

I’m a single mum with 3DC under 5, I’m not entirely sure how I’ll manage to homeschool but I still hope schools close

Littlewhitedove2 · 02/01/2021 01:05

They already have in my whole county!!?

80sColourfulChristmas · 02/01/2021 01:06

Am I the only one who is hoping they go back??? I'm a single parent with disabilities with a child with behavioral issues. If I don't get a break very very soon I'm going to have a breakdown and I'm not being lighthearted. I've been sat on the floor crying today, wishing I could drive off on my own and never come back (obviously would never).

The thought of even more weeks of this Groundhog Day of HELL & torture would send me right & truly over the edge

blazinglightonthehill · 02/01/2021 01:07

"people in tier 4 areas (( the majority of the UK at the mo )) have already been told of a staggered return"

@WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo my tier 4 area still has the schools due to open on Monday. It's only London that have been given any news today.

80sColourfulChristmas · 02/01/2021 01:07

My child doesn't even have a father to visit tragically so it's 24/7

blazinglightonthehill · 02/01/2021 01:08

@Littlewhitedove2 you're in London then? Or am I missing another tweet informing us to step away from the uniform ironing?

RedToothBrush · 02/01/2021 01:09

Looking at the data, keeping them open looks untenable by the middle of the week after next.

How close we get to then will be interesting.

The pissing about mucking the kids about by saying they have to go back only to close them within two weeks annoys me. Im trying to talk to a 6 year old about this possibility.

I wouldn't be surprised by a press conference by mid week tbh.

My children are quite happy to be at home. I do feel sad for my dd but she is in a better position now she has her phone. She can keep in touch with her friends thankfully! It was so very hard on her before.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 02/01/2021 01:11

Its a complete shitshow @RedToothBrush

ForeverInADay · 02/01/2021 01:13

I really hope so. I am dreading having to send my kids on Monday. It's the government putting the economy above lives.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 02/01/2021 01:14

It absolutely is. I really hope they make the right call.

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2021 01:14

It does look likely.

2020out · 02/01/2021 01:15

@80sColourfulChristmas

Please talk to your school and explain your circumstances. I would hope that they would support you by having your child in if necessary to avoid this. I know mine would if we knew that you were in danger of mental health crisis.

Knackeredmommy · 02/01/2021 01:16

Remember schools will be open for vulnerable and keyworker children. So any children with EHCPs or a social worker can go in. Thinking of my son in yr 11 and hoping BJ cancels exams sooner rather than later.

If you can, I would keep them home. Its hard though if you are working. Appreciate that.

@Skysblue

All London primaries now closed: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-55511169

Expect more u-turns to come.

This is shit eh.

A kid near me has sepsis and two hospitals turned him away because they were full. He was pretty ill by the time they got him into hospital number 3.

Someone upthread said the problem is everyone thinking “oh well they’re mixing at school anyway so I may as well break this rule...” This is a big problem.

Also a problem is that when they close schools they remain open for children of key workers - which would be sensible, but it now includes many people on that list who shouldn’t be on it, we had half the class in when the school was ‘closed’ - for example a dental admin assistant who can do 100% of her job remotely sent hers in for example because “I’m a keyworker!” I know a lot of people on that list who should not be on it.

Your post is a prime example of why I wish people would stop with the “I’m ok to mix with people/I feel fine/it only affects a 0.000000001% of the population” crap that keeps getting churned out.

The fact that that child had to have 3 attempts at getting admitted into a hospital should be a blooming wake up call, but so many people still aren’t realising it. Really hope he is ok.

And you’re right with the “well they’re mixing anyway” viewpoint from so many.

Thefeep · 02/01/2021 01:22

I really hope they don’t.

Thefeep · 02/01/2021 01:25

@Knackeredmommy - whilst children wit EHCP’s are supposed to be. Offered places sadly it didn’t happen last time for all kids and probably won’t happen this time.

Thefeep · 02/01/2021 01:29

@80sColourfulChristmas - no you’re not alone. I have a disabled child, well he’s 22, so not actually a child but The thought of school being closed again doesn’t bear thinking about. It’s hell for him and double hell for us. Thankfully An email yesterday confirmed He will return on the 4th, fingers crossed!

Knackeredmommy · 02/01/2021 01:29

@Thefeep really? Our school offered to all EHCP children, unless they're staffing issues all EHCP & vulnerable children should be offered a place. Maybe not if there are health needs?

Kent. All pretty much shut here

Saylethewayles · 02/01/2021 01:33

@80sColourfulChristmas Flowers for you and all others struggling. Its so hard.

If your DC has SEN or behavioural issues will they not qualify for a vulnerable child place at school? I hope so.
