Out of interest, how many schools have had 0 confirmed covid cases yet?

We are tier 4 (midlands). My dc primary school has still yet to have a confirmed covid case, which is obviously great for us but I think is purely down to luck as opposed to safety measures.

Just curious as to how many other schools in high tier areas are similar... I guess primary age children are often asymptomatic and therefore go undiagnosed?

We have had more than 70 ( comprehensive, northern) but I expect the parents have no idea about the number of cases, as only close contacts get sent home and although there have been letters home about covid, we certainly haven’t yelled about everyone.
I suspect many schools will be similar, of course in a one form entry or smaller primary school then you probably have a true idea, but in bugger schools many parents will not genuinely know the true picture.

My daughters primary has had none!

BelfastSmile · 01/01/2021 20:48

Neither my son's school nor my daughter's nursery has had any cases. We're in Belfast, so I don't know where we'd be in the tier system, but cases in this area are reasonably high.

DH is a teacher and they had their first "bubble pop" at the start of December (not his class though).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/01/2021 20:49

My child’s nursery has had none in a highly infectious area of London

SeldomFollowedIt · 01/01/2021 20:49

West mids. One form deprived school = 0 cases (apparently), school I work at (also one form and deprived) = 0 cases.

I have a feeling some parents just didn’t bother testing their kids. I don’t believe we have had no cases in either schools I have mentioned.

RedskyAtnight · 01/01/2021 20:49

I'd imagine there are quite a lot of (particularly small) primary schools that don't. We're in a Tier 4 area where schools are shut next week, and yet there are plenty of primary schools which haven't recorded any cases (the secondary schools on the other hand ...).

Our secondary school sends home a letter every time there is a positive case notified to them - is this not the case everywhere?

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 01/01/2021 20:51

Our primary has had a handful of confirmed positives. The trouble is that parents don't always test their children, it's likely to be at least double the number we've 'officially' had.

ProfessorPootle · 01/01/2021 20:51

My sons primary have had a handful of cases, it’s a busy London school with 4 form entry (120 kids per year) so doing pretty well. Independent secondary school down the road has had none at all, they have 80 in each year.

We weren't sending home a letter every time as it would have been a daily letter - by the end of term we were having multiple confirmed cases every day.
BeyondThunderdome · 01/01/2021 20:55

My sisters DCs are in school near-ish Gatwick, they've had no (confirmed) cases

hettyhooverdoover · 01/01/2021 20:56

None in my child's Primary school.

2020out · 01/01/2021 20:56

Are you sure?

We had at least six staff and at least 4 pupils test positive over the course of autumn term in our primary. Parents would not have known this - they would have known that four bubbles closed. As you can see, as staff I don't even know the full number.

ihearttc · 01/01/2021 20:57

I’m a TA in a school now in T4 and we haven’t had any. In fact I don’t even know anyone who has even had Covid.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 01/01/2021 20:57

No way of knowing in reality, many won’t test, some claim to be able to self diagnose without a test Hmm and unless a bubble bursts do schools notify all parents?

Feministicon · 01/01/2021 20:58

My sons had zero up until last month when they got one in reception

RedskyAtnight · 01/01/2021 20:58

We were getting daily letters by the end of term as well (sometimes multiple letters in a day, although the school obviously tried to include multiple notifications in a single letter). The school stated from the first that they wanted to be totally transparent - to a large degree to stop speculation on social media. Of course the children always know pretty much straight away which students are infected, but as far as I know there has been anonymity for affected staff.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/01/2021 20:59

No cases so far in either DD primary school (tiny village primary, only two classes so we'd know if anyone did test positive) & none in DS nursery either. South West but in Tier 4 now.

glassbrightly · 01/01/2021 20:59

Zero here in a high infection area

EverythingsComingUpRoses · 01/01/2021 21:00

4 pupils in my class were off with covid symptoms, all refused to test their children -said it was only a few days to the holiday so they'd just keep them off

My TA and I both got positive tests the first Monday of the Christmas holiday

lcdododo · 01/01/2021 21:00

You honestly have no idea.

In my school, the head isn't telling anyone. And not even following the 'bubble' rule anymore. So even if your child is in the same class, they won't be informed.

wineandsunshine · 01/01/2021 21:00

One pupil in the year I teach - south.

ohidoliketobe · 01/01/2021 21:01

Lancs and t4 area now. DS primary (2 form entry) had no cases / bubbles isolating in the winter term.
DD pre school had one case October time, not her bubble thankfully

Jinglealltheway22 · 01/01/2021 21:03

Tier 4 West Midlands.

Small independent school. No cases this term - confirmed by the head in his end of term letter to parents.

I suspect a combination of luck; kids being asymptomatic; small class sizes and lots of outdoor space at the school. Plus whilst on the edge of a town, lots of the pupils live in surrounding villages, so less likely to be in contact with too many people.

And parents more likely to be working from home.

Chickoletta · 01/01/2021 21:05

Cornwall - 0 in my DCs’ primary or the secondary school where I teach.

ceeveebee · 01/01/2021 21:05

Now tier 4 but have been under some sort of restrictions since end of July
Managed to go all term with no cases, then two confirmed on the last day of term. Happened to be in both my DCs classes too so self isolated over Christmas.
