Out of interest, how many schools have had 0 confirmed covid cases yet?

We are tier 4 (midlands). My dc primary school has still yet to have a confirmed covid case, which is obviously great for us but I think is purely down to luck as opposed to safety measures.

Just curious as to how many other schools in high tier areas are similar... I guess primary age children are often asymptomatic and therefore go undiagnosed?

I thought my children’s school had, had zero cases but as I’ve just found out the area it’s in is in one of the highest areas for Covid in East Midlands I don’t see how that’s right if I’m honest!

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 02/01/2021 05:15

Also tier 4

CeeJay81 · 02/01/2021 05:16

None here at the primary in rural mid Wales yet.

lovelemoncurd · 02/01/2021 05:58

All these parents who supposedly know exactly how many cases there are in the school at any one time are deranged! How can they possibly know?

Are schools sending out magic letters every time an asymptomatic child sits in a classroom with the virus which nobody yet knows about?

The OP asked about confirmed cases.
ChessieFL · 02/01/2021 06:09

Tier 4 south west and none that we know of in DD’s primary yet. Most others in our town seem to have been affected though.

Hellandcoldwater · 02/01/2021 06:33

Our school did send out a letter at the end of term which among the usual blurb said they were pleased with how well things had worked as they'd only had one suspected (not confirmed) case in March (although of course it's luck!). T4 London, primary.

Sure there have been asymptomatic cases but of course no one would know about them at all. Oh none in nursery either and it was open throughout in a hotspot (it's
a small nursery so one 'bubble').

parrotonmyshoulder · 02/01/2021 07:39

None at DC primary but 20+ in DC secondary next door.

Of course you know that people are talking about confirmed cases.
Oysterbabe · 02/01/2021 08:09

Bristol Tier 3.
We've only had 1 Bubble burst and it wasn't my DD's year so she hasn't been off at all so far.

Bagelsandbrie · 02/01/2021 08:11

My daughters school in South Norfolk has had no official cases, however I know from my dd and her friends (all sixth form) that several have had it so I don’t believe any figures anymore! I just think people are isolating and not reporting it anymore.

Longdistance · 02/01/2021 08:17

I work in a prep school in the SE. We have had zero cases. The parent may have caught it, but the child was immediately out of school and no other child caught it.
If the child is off sick, they go to the school nurse on their return for an assessment.

HelloDulling · 02/01/2021 08:20

South Wales independent all-through school. No cases in the junior school, several in the senior school.

phlebasconsidered · 02/01/2021 08:29

Just pointing out that as parents, you would not know. As teachers we don't! We are not told if a child is testing, we don't know about other bubbles. We only know if we see the mark on the register and are called to close.

I can say with certainty that kids are still coming in while waiting for results, that parents are still sending ill kids in, that kids in my class have had a tummy ache or headache or runny nose and subsequently their families have tested positive. This was the old variant. It will be different with the new, as the alarming rise in my area shows clearly.

catnoir1 · 02/01/2021 08:31

My sons primary has had none, nursery has had none but secondary has had 7 cases.

Clutterbugsmum · 02/01/2021 08:33

It's irrelevant what cases had before Christmas as the new variants we are now having to deal with are far more contagious. So I would be surprised if any school has 0 cases by February half term.

I would also be concerned if the Head is not sending out letters about cases in school as this is giving the parents a false sense of security about how safe the school is.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/01/2021 08:34

My grandson's primary (North East Derbyshire - it's a big and varied county) has not had any bubbles that had to close. The older ones' secondary has had several closures though.

IndecentFeminist · 02/01/2021 08:37

We've had 1!

MistletoeandGin · 02/01/2021 08:37

So far we’ve had an email from the head when there was been any confirmed case/bubble closure, not just one relevant to our own children. We had an email from the Head on the occasion that a child was confirmed to have it even though it had no effect on the school as she was already isolating due to a parent having tested positive. Of course we’re not told of someone is off for testing due to symptoms (I’ve had to test my own 3 times due to coughs).
This is a small village primary where everyone knows everyone so I think they’ve taken that position due to knowing there will be a lot of gossip. We’ve also had minimal cases so I imagine it’s different in a large secondary where bubbles are closing on a frequent basis.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/01/2021 08:39

In a smallish village primary everyone would know.

Deliaskis · 02/01/2021 08:43

0 confirmed cases and so no bubble closures at DD's primary (smallish, around 100 kids in 4 bubbles). We're in T4 in NW (Cheshire, not one of the areas in restrictions since July). Our numbers at the moment are lower than they were for most of last term, although I expect not for long.

Deliaskis · 02/01/2021 08:44

And yes small primary where everyone would know because of sibling links etc.

phlebasconsidered · 02/01/2021 09:01

Also pointing out that guidance is now that a whole bubble won't "pop" necessarily. So the child and immediate contacts would be off but not the teacher or the rest of the class. Most parents assume whole bubbles pop but that's not true in all cases.

Once the not terribly effective lft are used there won't even be the safety of that isolation.

Ceara · 02/01/2021 09:11

No cases yet, though a couple of children have self-isolated as contacts due to a parent having confirmed covid. It's a 3 class village primary, we would know instantly! And the county council publishes a list of all schools with cases on its website - from which, I can see that DS's school is pretty much the only one locally not to have had a case at all yet. We are tier 4, the luck isn't going to last.
