Out of interest, how many schools have had 0 confirmed covid cases yet?

We are tier 4 (midlands). My dc primary school has still yet to have a confirmed covid case, which is obviously great for us but I think is purely down to luck as opposed to safety measures.

Just curious as to how many other schools in high tier areas are similar... I guess primary age children are often asymptomatic and therefore go undiagnosed?

"It was confirmed by the Head in her end of term newsletter that we had zero confirmed cases in any staff or pupils, so its not that we just haven't been told..."

But for the purposes of the thread it's obvious that all are communicating in their own way

East Midlands
Tier 4
No cases in DDs primary
Quite a lot in DSs secondary

Chocarocker · 01/01/2021 22:11

T4 area Cumbria - daughters primary school has had roughly 10 cases (some asymptomatic) and my daughter has had to isolate twice since September. In comparison I work in secondary and my bubble has not burst yet although there have been a handful of cases within the school.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcoln · 01/01/2021 22:11

My DDs has had no confirmed cases and no bubbles burst the entirety of the last term. Despite this as it's a London tier 4 school it can't reopen as planned on Monday.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcoln · 01/01/2021 22:12

Primary school I meant to say!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/01/2021 22:14

A family member works at a primary school in T4 Nottinghamshire and they've had none. DS's school here in T4 Derbyshire has had 2 but none since before October half term.

ReceptionTA · 01/01/2021 22:15

We've had DC isolating because parents have tested positive and classes off because staff have tested positive, but I don't think we've had any children test positive (we've had children with temp and cough after isolating because parents tested positive, but parents often refuse to test children).

MistletoeandGin · 01/01/2021 22:15

None at the school I’m Chair of Governors at. 2 at my children’s school, one teacher and one child. The child was already isolating due to their parent having already tested positive though so no impact on the school. Head was open and honest about both of the cases.

Dallerup · 01/01/2021 22:15

None here. Just outside of Brighton so tier 4 but not the highest cases in the county. No cases in our 2 form entry primary school and no teachers have had to self isolate either. Not sure why we were told that but we weren't told the same about the kids so I guess there's been some who have had to isolate as contacts. DS says there's not much different about the school except less mixing between key stages (year groups don't seem to be separate bubbles just the key stages) and his year are having lunch brought to them in the classroom which he thinks is amazing

NeurologicallySpeaking · 01/01/2021 22:15

We've had maybe 50 odd children and maybe 30 staff and we do report numbers to parents. London. Hardly any Sep/Oct then Nov it started surging -
Presumably due to new variant.

Good safety measures in place as far as poss but it is a small school site with a lot of pupils.

MistletoeandGin · 01/01/2021 22:16

Oh both of the above schools are a Tier 4 area (Midlands).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/01/2021 22:16

And I'd know if there were more, parents talk and there is a school facebook group with regular posts from parents.

MistletoeandGin · 01/01/2021 22:18

I think the people saying ‘you wouldn’t necessarily know’ don’t like in a village like mine where everyone knows everything about everyone Grin.

Badgerstmary · 01/01/2021 22:19

We have not had any confirmed cases but that’s purely because the positive parents aren’t getting their children tested.

lunalucie · 01/01/2021 22:21

None in our primary school, high number local authority area that's been in local lockdown since September/October last year.

Megan2018 · 01/01/2021 22:27

0 but it’s a tiny village school of less than 60. Lots have isolated but none tested positive.

doritodiva · 01/01/2021 22:27

My dds primary school had to shut a week before the Christmas hols due to so many children testing positive. Think it was 10 of them. We were tier two. Now tier three. I work in a primary school in tier three and we've had several bubbles burst.

usedandabusedx1000 · 01/01/2021 22:29

I’m in tier 4, I’ve not been informed of a single case in my dd primary, my ds secondary on the other hand? 3+ every single day for the last month (and not once has an entire class let alone year group been sent home)

Juststopswimming · 01/01/2021 22:33

0 cases in staff or students in a school with 200+ pupils

Maryann1975 · 01/01/2021 22:44

I think you are right that any school who hasn’t had a case is down to luck not safety measures.

If COVID is rife in the community, it is going to get in to the school. It doesn’t matter how careful schools are, if one of the children does something outside of school and catches that, it will affect the school, but that isn’t down to the school safety measures. The school can be judged on how many others catch COVID from the first case, but not on how many individual cases they have bought in. Does that make sense?
Our school have sent home 7 classes out of 18 (4 of them were due to a member of staff). No one else in any of the bubbles tested positive, so the schools have done well. Parents have followed the rules, kept their child home when needed, tested promptly, Isolated the Class quickly and it’s worked.

But the schools that have had multiple cases, it’s really not their fault. In areas with high rates, there are always going to be high rates in schools. It doesn’t matter how stringent the safety measures are.

None in nursery
One in primary school back in September.

weddingplanning15 · 01/01/2021 22:50

Tier 4. 3 classes had to isolate last term because teaching staff tested positive. No children.

trilbydoll · 01/01/2021 22:54

None in our infant/junior schools as far as I'm aware but I don't know for sure. I know in March the junior school was running on a proper skeleton staff so many were off so maybe they have herd immunity?!

WhatTheFoot · 01/01/2021 22:54

We're in tier 4. DDs primary school has had no cases. Oldest DDs secondary has had 3 cases, all in her year but she hasn't had to isolate. I work in a nursery and we have had no cases.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 01/01/2021 22:57

None at the local primary school. Only 3 cases at my children’s secondary school. Tier 4 midlands
