Fines for Non Attendance

Williamson/Johnson both seem reluctant to say schools won’t be fining. But in September this was the party line...

I don’t understand why they would want to fine responsible, perhaps vulnerable parents, educating at home while the case numbers and hospital admissions are so bad.

I’m guessing it’s because they don’t want to endorse non attendance and having children hanging out in groups at playareas etc but that they wouldn’t actually fine responsible parents??

I find it bizarre. Hardly a vote winner! I don’t think parents will quickly forget the duress, especially if the consequences of playing Russian roulette with their health are high.

I'm going to keep Ds2 (y6) off when they return on the 4th. Dd (y8, same school) was also supposed to return on the 4th but now has to do online work from the 6th and return the 18th.

I'm going to be honest with the school and I'll tell them I hoped they would support my decision due to vulnerabilities in our family. I don't think they will to be honest so then I might have to try and argue Article 2 of the Human Rights Act either with the school or the courts...

I think school fines are ridiculous at the best of times let alone now.
