Will there be another lockdown?

If the current measures don't work are we headed for another full national lockdown in 2 weeks time?
Is that the next step?

If this doesn’t work, and I am not convinced it will then yes. It’s all very well opening the schools but kids are super spreaders whatever they say. Delaying secondary schools to allow testing to be put in place is fine, as long as the kids are tested everyday, sent home as soon as found positive and the rest of their close family isolate , which we all know most will, but some won’t as it means no money.

Personally I think we should have done what Germany, Holland and others have done, full lockdown including closing schools for January, instead we get a half hearted T4=that people are ignoring

LBB2020 · 31/12/2020 18:30

The OP didn’t say one hour of exercise, they said one lot of exercise which I think was the original guidance in March?

PicsInRed · 31/12/2020 18:44

Iirc, it was one form of exercise each day. Technically, this could be multiple walks or multiple cycles, but not walks and cycles in the same day. 😂

Which could be either wheedled into "as many walks OR cycles I want in one day, yay let's travel the countryside"; or bullied into "ONLY ONE BRIEF WALK PER DAY IN YOUR OWN AREA STAY THE FUCK AT HOME GRANNY KILLERS".

This was all people bickered talked about from March 23rd to the end of May, rather than focusing on what the government were up to.

Genius when you think about it.

We are already in lock down, tier 4 and school not opening. All we can do is go for a walk in the park, everything shut. What more do people want? Doors welded shut like China??

Elephant4 · 31/12/2020 18:50

I think others are not in lockdown yet @yomommasmomma

It’s hard for us to imagine not being in lockdown. Those not in it yet still see it as a vague possibility. Imagine that.

It’s so wishy washy, lockdown but so many exceptions to the rules. I have friends in Kent, they have family elsewhere, my friend, her husband, 3 year old and 8 month old decided on Boxing Day to travel to see the parents as they were able to form a support bubble due to the under 1. I didn’t agree and this is how it keeps spreading!

Dadnotamum72 · 31/12/2020 18:54

@FoundSkipping

I am hoping the current restrictions work and numbers start reducing so we don’t have to shut all schools. As much as I dislike Boris I think this is much better than a full national lockdown
Looking at the latest figures there is some hope in that the places in kent as well as the other areas that were very high a few weeks back have started falling now so everything may act like a wave with london/ essex soon falling/ other areas like sussex/ surrey rising for a bit then falling. Its just weather the hospitals can cope with everywhere being high at the same time.
FestiveFannyGallops · 31/12/2020 18:54

We are now in tier 4. I went for a walk with ds earlier (recommended exercise for the shielded) and the local texaco/co-op was full of cars and queues for fuel and the new co-op that's opened quarter of a mile further up the road had a queue of 10 people outside, there was a group of people outside one of the bars, loads of cars on the road and my neighbours have been noisily in and out all day in their cars. Then there's the neighbours who have had a group of 5 staying with them since Boxing Day. It's nothing like lockdown was in March and this tier 4 will drag on for months if schools stay open and people carry on like they are now. I've resigned myself to being stuck inside until I get vaccinated.

Cornettoninja · 31/12/2020 19:01

My bit of Essex isn’t falling but it does seem to be levelling off somewhat. Hopefully these restrictions start showing a difference soon but I remember it taking quite a while back in March to get on top of it again.

I’m in a funny area where there are primary schools ten minutes apart with one open and one closed.

CarolEffingBaskin · 31/12/2020 19:07

Not in name, but Tier 4 basically is. The difference is, people don't give a fuck anymore, because the government squandered every last bit of trust and compliance.

At this point, it would be better to just open up tbh. People will do whatever the fuck they want anyway, so why are children paying such a disproportionate price?

Iwantacookie · 31/12/2020 19:39

Ide say we are in lockdown.
Not very well thought through though of course people are going to go to the one shop that's open aka the supermarket. Would of been much better to have all soups open but limit it to x number of people in at any one time to spread people out a bit. Supermarkets are like a free for all atm.

FoundSkipping · 31/12/2020 21:35

So actually the problem isn’t the restrictions it is the people being silly. Why should all kids be forced to miss their education just because some people are incredibly
Selfish?
