Should we be isolating?

Maybe I’m stupid but I’m confused by the isolation guidelines.

SIL has tested positive and we saw her Christmas Day, her symptoms started on the Monday after (72 hours) so according to guidelines we don’t need to isolate. However, she’s pretty certain she caught it from a work colleague who she last saw 4 days before SIL got symptoms, so SIL shouldn’t have needed to isolate either according to guidelines but it’s almost certain she caught it from work as she’s barely been anywhere else?

We’ve not been contacted by test and trace abs wondering now if we are wasting our time isolating when we needn’t be, but I feel we should if that makes sense

If you didn't see her in the 48 hours before symptoms then you dont need to isolate.
