Had the call from care home my mum has Covid

Just now.
She’s 81, type 1 diabetic, heart failure, had a massive heart attack in March , worsening vascular dementia. It’s not going to go well is it? My dad who’s end stage dementia in the same home has tested negative but I imagine it’s only a matter of time. The home is riddled with it apparently 😔

Thank you this has been the longest week of my life. I’ve not told the younger dc (they’re 16 abs 18 so not tiny!!) they know they both have Covid but I’m waiting til the phone call just in case there’s a miraculous u turn. Unlikely now I know. Eldest dc who is 22 and lives away and is the closest to mum is surprising me with his maturity and acceptance.

Could it perhaps be a delirium on top of the dementia and covid? In fact it very likely is. I don't want to give false hope or anything but my partners aunt was in her 80s, dementia and other co-morbidities and caught covid in the care home. They only knew she had it because of routine testing, no symptoms at all. This was a few months ago and she's doing just fine now.

They’ve started the just in case meds. They are starting with the anti-secretion meds, they don’t think she needs morphine at the moment. They said she’s just drifting away. I woke this morning with a sense of real doom like this is it . I’ve felt sad and heavy all day. Finding it hard to stay awake. I don’t know how long she will last now. I feel like it’s going to be this evening or overnight

Yes my dh and dc are here thank you @FabbyMagic though I’ve yet to tell the dc about this latest development. I’m so scared right now

I'm so sorry. It sounds like they are doing everything they can to make her comfortable, but that is little comfort.

Sorry to read your update. It's especially hard when the 'fitter' one deteriorates suddenly. Thinking of you.

I had the call this morning to go and say goodbye. I’ve just got back. Am absolutely devastated. Just waiting on the call to say she’s gone
