So here's mine:
I look after my niece one day a week and last week it happened to fall on the day our grocery delivery was due, it arrived without my dogs food and we'd run out that morning, so loaded my DD and niece (6 month old and 1 year old) to the supermarket, literally went in, both girls in pushchair so she wasn't running wild, grabbed the dog food and headed to the till, she'd been very good so I grabbed her a individual packet of chocolate buttons as a treat from next to the till, only for the lady behind me to tut and say 'that's not exactly essential shopping is it! Idiots like you are the reason we're in this mess! You should be ashamed of yourself! Then again what do we expect from girls like you that have nothing better to do than keep popping out kids for the benefits!' 😂 I love people's assumptions!

 1. Only 1 is actually mine,
 2. Both girls we're planned and very much wanted,
And 3. I'm 26 and married 😂 I loved the look on her face when I turned round and informed her 'and I'm pregnant again!' 😂

the shutting gyms but keeping open takeaways...when obesity is a major risk factor for Covid. Why wasn't there a campaign to get people to lose weight over the last 8 months or so...
That's a good point.

They could have put money into pools and leisure centres to provide classes for people.

@PandemicPalava

At no point was one hour specified as the allotted exercise time and I don't know why anyone thought it was. People got very grumpy when others went out for a walk for a couple of hours in our village!
In an interview Give was asked what's reasonable for people being our for exercise. It was around the time people were stopped when they drove to mountains for hiking for hours.

He said about 5k run was usual amount of exercise needed which takes 30 minutes to run and maybe an hour to walk.

From then on everyone insisted it was an hour. Think PM had something to do with it? He's been great at times but has also been equally responsible for some of the hatred and drivel spouted.

Nohomemadecandles · 31/12/2020 20:55

@LostThreads in a sealed box, no less. The one next to the box of books and paper that they share. Near the table where they sit together, all leaning over each other and dribbling! HmmGrin

phlebasconsidered · 31/12/2020 20:58

Going back.to school in a tier 4 area on Monday.

"the shutting gyms but keeping open takeaways...when obesity is a major risk factor for Covid. "

Yes, but people are in gyms in the same room together for some time. It's obviously more dangerous than a takeaway.

@BonnieDundee

One of the funny things I have noticed was in the early days hardly anyone was wearing masks. Nobody bats an eyelid at all the maskless people walking around In July the government decide to make them mandatory indoors. Suddenly everyone feels "not safe" around a few exempt people not wearing them Xmas Grin
That's not really true. Many members of the public were calling for masks to be made compulsory before it happened.

People disinfecting their shopping! Quarantining items at school. The lack of critical thinking.
If disinfecting your shopping is so wrong, you're saying that the virus cannot be transmitted by touching objects that other people have touched, yes? If so, why all the focus on hand washing and sanitisers everywhere because it's the same thing, the idea that you should wash your hands before and after touching something because you could contaminate it. If it's not transmitted by touching objects, why is there still a huge emphasis on washing hands?
Chesneyhawkes1 · 31/12/2020 21:15

There's a lady on my local FB page who moans all the time about people during Covid.

This week she said "don't people know we are tier 4. When I was out and about today I saw so many people out. Stay home" 🙄

housemdwaswrong · 31/12/2020 21:36

My asda delivery man delivering to me (priority slot, shielding), telling me from the bottom of the drive that covid was a hoax, and the flu jab kills people. His evidence was a lady he delivers to who had two friends that passed away after the flu jab. When I enquired as to her age, it was mid 80s. Made me laugh, and made me angry in equal measures that he should be spouting this rubbish to very many, probably already vulnerable customers.

housemdwaswrong · 31/12/2020 21:37

@chesneyhawkes1 I was laughing with a friend on zoom yesterday about a mutual acquaintance doing roughly the same thing. There's a real dissonance there for many I think.

Nevertoomanyroasties · 31/12/2020 21:44

A one way system in our local Morrisons that herded everyone into one aisle that had no escape, and it was the clothes aisle so people trying to get down it to look at clothes. I tried to explain the issue to shop staff but they just barked back "it's covid measures to make sure we stay safe!"

stoneysongs · 31/12/2020 21:51

A friend freely admitting that she had lied about her DH's symptoms in order to get him a test, because he didn't have any of the symptoms which would justify testing. He was a bit achy. And then moaning that they had to drive a fair distance because all the testing centres were so busy. 🤦‍♀️

IrmaFayLear · 31/12/2020 22:06

Does anyone recall the nutty poster starting a thread on here about a burst water main and screaming that it was unacceptable in a pandemic . Didn’t hear much more so I reckon their water was back on within the hour. Some people are just loving latching on to the drama.

GrapeLipBalm · 31/12/2020 22:12

I remember people who were regular runners complaining about people going on walks during lockdown who didn't usually do so. As if running before lockdown gave you some sort of "using the outdoors" permit that other people shouldn't be entitled to. Confused

EileenGC · 31/12/2020 22:13

All these people who quarantine their post for 3 days. I must be the only person on mumsnet who sometimes receives important letters with important documents in them, and has a habit of opening envelopes as they arrive. Can people really afford to not open their post for days?

People wearing a mask but taking it off to talk on the phone. Oh and I've only seen thin cotton or blue surgical mask wearers do this. Someone needs to explain to them how a smartphone's microphone works... Ironically those with FFP2 masks (which you'd think are bulkier and therefore would make talking on the phone harder), seem to have no issues with it Grin

Any of Boris Johnson's press conferences, which I stopped watching at some point back in spring. 'Tis the season to be jolly careful was a highlight of my Christmas season, I must say.

Sewsosew · 31/12/2020 22:17

NDN making a huge fuss about shielding and getting volunteers to get her shopping.
Then going to visit son who was a teacher and other family member who was a hospital nurse.
@TheLeastBit
I think it was butter ... fucking batshit ..who the fuck has actually used butter as an alternative to milk in tea or coffee I’d rather go without to be honest ..
It’s actually delicious and a mainstay of a Keto diet. But that aside- people saying milk is non essential is truly batshit!!

Figmentofimagination · 31/12/2020 22:19
 1. The woman behind me in the queue in morrisons who had pulled her mask down to talk on the phone and kept pacing around her trolley right next to me, then got huffy when I asked her to not stand so close to me.
 1. A local family has had the police called on them twice by a busybody neighbour. Their first crime a couple of months ago - providing childcare. They were looking after their baby grandchild and it was reported they weren't socially distancing when they baby was handed over. How can a person socially distance when handing over a baby who can't walk?!
Their second crime today - providing childcare again to the same family. They have now formed a support bubble with the family as the baby is only 9months old. This has all been discussed in length on Facebook. The police have now said they won't respond to any more malicious reports about this family.

Being reported to head office for letting two paramedics in full uniform jump the queue to grab a meal deal for lunch at the supermarket I work in. The couple that reported me were lovely, they swore at me and spat at my colleague. Luckily when head office understood the situation nothing more was done.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 31/12/2020 22:27

@housemdwaswrong there really is.

Last week she was moaning about people walking their dogs round the park. We should be at home. The park isn't over looked by houses. So how she knew they were there, from the safety of her own home is beyond me.

I'm looking forward to her next rant already 😁

Timeturnerplease · 31/12/2020 22:27

Got ‘told off’ last term for buying six bottles of antibacterial spray and several kitchen rolls in Tesco by a grumpy looking lady.

It was 7am and I wasn’t properly awake, so I just rolled my eyes. I should have pointed out that they were to clean tables in my classroom, and that she was welcome to come and do it for me if wanted to make sure everyone was following ‘the rules’. I’m rubbish at on the spot comebacks.

lljkk · 31/12/2020 22:30

My workplace (I have seen it in person just 5x since March) - is a spacious multiple-large building site.

They have one-way system... outdoors. Big arrow stickers everywhere on the pavement (peeling up when I was last there). Even though 90% of the staff can and do WFH and no one needs to just walk around as part of the job. The inside-building one-way systems are very confusing, too. There seem to be 2 guys daily working in my office; I reckon they don't need to work there barely ever but it's easier than home & only 2 of them, after all.

3 of us were in 25m x 4m wide public pool lane. Officially we weren't supposed to overtake except at the lane ends (why God knows because there's nothing safer about waiting for someone to overtake you). One of the lifeguards actually came over to scold someone who overtook me, about 3m away. <img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Confused" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/confused-DVrVQwAF.png">
