School staff meetings

We have an inset day on Monday- I have a number of training sessions in person on that day with different groups of people. Anyone else? I'm a bit worried, I know schools are magic and it can't be passed on once in the magic building but lots of adults crammed together in one place? I didnt see family during to risks this Christmas so this seems ridiculous.....

That’s not right. I’m amazed that SLT think that’s a sensible thing to do - it’s a highly efficient way of infecting swathes of school staff and putting the rest in isolation. We do all staff training and meetings via Teams. Even work-related conversations that go on over ten minutes have to be stopped and moved either to Teams or outdoors, socially distanced and with masks.

I would ask to see the risk assessment for that. All out meetings are online except small team and emergency ones.

AnxiousAlpaca · 31/12/2020 11:13

Are you in a union? This seems like an unnecessary risk. What’s the reason it can’t be done via Teams?

xyzandabc · 31/12/2020 11:19

Are you sure the training is everyone all in the same room? Staff meeting/training at my school has all been via Teams since Sept. So 3 or 4 staff members in a classroom and the training/meeting delivered via screen. 20/30+ classrooms in use depending how big the meeting is.

SophieB100 · 31/12/2020 12:17

We haven't had proper staff briefings, training together since the week before the first lockdown in March!
All virtual.
Amazed your SLT is doing such a crazy thing OP.

manicinsomniac · 31/12/2020 12:19

At the moment I do, but I'm assuming it will all be switched to virtual and small meetings over the weekend.

All our regular staff meetings are on Teams and this would have been our first official mass gathering since Sept inset. So I'll be amazed if it goes ahead.

I expect you'll get an email changing yours too.

PurpleDaisies · 31/12/2020 12:20

Training has all been on teams here.

lavenderlou · 31/12/2020 12:21

All staff meetings and training have been online since March for us too.

Scarby9 · 31/12/2020 12:23

I am leading training in person on the 4th.
There will be three adults plus me in a classroom at a time, all masked, sitting in the room corners, with the windows open. I have quarantined their handouts in individual sleeves since the end of term.

I still think it would have been more sensible (and much warmer!) To have done the day via Zoom.

squiddybear · 31/12/2020 12:58

Wonder if you're in the same place as me OP? We have a full on inset day on Monday

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 31/12/2020 13:00

Just say no. We did. It's now all Teams. Apart from one moderation session where we sat in a bloody wind tunnel for 30 minutes, 3m away from each other and took 4 hours to warm up afterwards.

Flyingaway16 · 31/12/2020 13:34

@squiddybear south east?

OP posts:
CraftyGin · 31/12/2020 13:37

We had all on staff meetings on Google Hangouts last term. Would work for inset days.

Flyingaway16 · 31/12/2020 13:40

Weekly staff meetings are teams, hoping something will change .

OP posts:
motherrunner · 31/12/2020 13:43

We have inset too on Monday but any meeting over 10 people will be via Teams.

motherrunner · 31/12/2020 13:44

If that’s not clear we are in school, inset as planned but whole staff meeting with be via Teams. Dept and pastoral in person.

squiddybear · 31/12/2020 13:46

@Flyingaway16 yep!

I'm a college...

GleamingBaubles · 31/12/2020 13:47

@FrippEnos

Brilliant 😁
GleamingBaubles · 31/12/2020 13:48

But yeah we have inset. All in the hall with chairs spaced out - but still all in the hall Confused

Flyingaway16 · 31/12/2020 16:12

Ours is cancelled.

This happened at my child’s school. Teacher was pulled for a meeting, whole year ended up having to isolate for 2 weeks!Angry I was far from
Impressed as thought they stuck to their bubbles.
