What's the longest you will put up with restrictions?

I'm just wondering where people think their breaking point will be with the virus restrictions. If the government extends the furlough scheme beyond April and says we all have to stay locked down, will you obey?
If we're still not free in June or July?
Personally I feel like I could just about take another 3 months maximum.

People would be wise to put Johnson's Easter line aside and try to focus on reality

I will do as long as I need but I think I will have a breakdown if I'm lockdown after March. I really wanted to book a weekend away for my husbands 30th in June and not sure if I should. Imagine still being in this position then, doesn't bear thinking about

shallbe · 31/12/2020 08:47

I'm not sure what you mean, you make it sound like we have a choice. Ok we could refuse to wear a mask, but I can't exactly rock up to Fat Face and say "right I'm over this now, it's passed my personal threshold of 1 month, open up".

Gellert · 31/12/2020 08:49

As long as it takes. I've not been anywhere since March apart from work and will continue that as long as needed. As will my teens, who haven't seen friends outside of education since March. Vulnerable household member so happily reducing all interactions to keep them safe.

Popcornriver · 31/12/2020 08:50

Well in tier 4 I literally can't leave the house unless it's to go for a walk or pop to the supermarket. I'm also told by the news to avoid crowds around New Year or I'll catch coronavirus. Yet in a few days my child is returning to school. In a crowd and I have no choice in the matter unless I willing agree to give up his school place. I'd be willing to stick to lockdown. I'm already at breaking point with these half measures though.

rookiemere · 31/12/2020 08:50

It depends what you mean by restrictions. I suspect mask wearing and social distancing are here for a lot longer and I'm doubtful if concerts and theatres will be open this year.

However I expect UK travel restrictions to be lifted as soon as a good tranche of the elderly and vulnerable have been vaccinated - am thinking Easter. Also shops will be open again as soon as they can. Ditto restaurants and pubs - but they may keep in the distancing restrictions.

I live in Scotland and I worry that Scottish government will be overly cautious like they were in the summer. I'm desperate to see our relatives in England - but understand that Christmas was too risky.

ivfbabymomma1 · 31/12/2020 08:50

I have to take each day as it comes rather than think of how long I can deal with this. I can't bare to think about another year of it.

EarlGreywithLemon · 31/12/2020 08:51

As long as it takes. I don’t want to catch COVID so that’s a pretty strong motivator.

rookiemere · 31/12/2020 08:51

I meant travel restrictions within UK not abroad.

Clutterbugsmum · 31/12/2020 08:51

Winter was always going to be harder then in the summer. The shorter days, and it being cold and wet so people are less inclined to go outside.

But what the alternative to carry on doing what 'we' want for this pandemic to over run the country so hospitals and funeral parlours can't cope. And that will ruin the country as well.

The only way out of this is to follow the rules and when the vaccines are available to have them and then hopefully by the end of spring, early summer we can start to get back to a normal life.

BeyondMyWits · 31/12/2020 08:53

We have no choice. I can keep going.

But to be fair, personally my life has become simpler and a lot cheaper without having to go visit family many miles away. With dh working from home, with dd doing all uni work online. I go to work a short walk away in a pharmacy, so feel I am contributing. A simpler life feels good to me after years of running to other's tunes. Might get fed up eventually if economy cut backs affect me and mine. And I do feel for those who have been affected. But personally, or me, I like the hermit style.

Bagelsandbrie · 31/12/2020 08:53

I don’t think we have a choice. It’s either this or the NHS will collapse.

Scaredykittycat · 31/12/2020 08:53

I’m not sure we have a choice. If we don’t continue, does that mean we are going into riot and looting territory?

2020quelhorreur · 31/12/2020 08:55

I assume the as long as it takes people are not self-employer or working in the private sector. March for me. This fades away in the summer anyway, and they have to have vaccines under control by next winter, so I do really really hope we are in the last few weeks of this shit.

CountessFrog · 31/12/2020 08:56

beyond my wits

Arent you concerned about your daughter’s university being online? I mean, I get that you are enjoying ‘the hermit life’ but what about your daughter?

I could live like this for quite a while, but the effect on my children is too hard to bear.

middleager · 31/12/2020 08:57

But what can we actually do?

If you're done with it, won't put up with it/accept it (which I see on various threads) what does this mean and who, in authority, really cares?

I wrote to my MP three times about schools, signed some petitions, posted on MN, Twitter, contacted a journalist anonymously about my concerns over education, a real keyboard warrior Shock

I've realised we are powerless against a global pandemic and the latest knee jerk Government reaction.

stolenwedding · 31/12/2020 08:58

@beelzeboris I assume you’re winding us up? Or you don’t take interest in global affairs.

I do genuinely wonder what NZ plan is, as it’s clear Covid won’t be eradicated globally. Vaccinate the entire population before opening the borders? Otherwise the US / UK / Europe could be operating like normal but with covid still circulating and the vulnerable vaccinated but I think that might panic NZ due to their 0 tolerance approach.

Caramel81 · 31/12/2020 09:02

As long as it takes but ideally by the summer holidays at the latest. If it drags on longer than that I’ll still comply but will be deeply depressed with it all

LesLavandes · 31/12/2020 09:03

As long as it takes. We have no choice

southeastdweller · 31/12/2020 09:09

Of course there's a choice. If your friends and family are willing, you can see them as much as you want.

Branleuse · 31/12/2020 09:10

Dont have a lot of choice but to put up with them do we?
Not enjoying it and dont think all of it makes sense, but if they shut everything, what can u do

TammyHullfigure · 31/12/2020 09:10

@beelzeboris

Hilarious. Hmm

BikeRunSki · 31/12/2020 09:13

In March i remover feeling really fed up that we were initially locked down for 3 weeks, whereas my sister in France was initially locked for only 2 weeks!

I think realistically I could take another 2 or 3 months; depends what happens with schools. I had moments of thinking I was losing my mind in the run up to Christmas, largely related to my workload and the difficulties in doing my job within the COVID restrictions (difficult to look at a the detail of engineering construction site by Zoom). I would struggle with another 6 months (any extended time) with the dc at home.

I have seen no family other than DH and the dc since July. My area went into the equivalent of T3!at the start of August. DM lives by herself, 250 miles away. She’s trying to move here, but travel abs tier restrictions are not helping this. I’m not sure how much more she can manage.

Calmandmeasured1 · 31/12/2020 09:16

I don't have a breaking point. I will accept restrictions for as long as it takes, although I hope they will be a lot more relaxed by the middle of next year.

If the government extends the furlough scheme beyond April and says we all have to stay locked down, will you obey?
Yes. The Govt don't want to close the country down and damage the economy. Why would they? Anyone who thinks otherwise has clearly been failed by the education system.

Most other countries have similar restrictions. Are all their Govts wrong too?

Katie517 · 31/12/2020 09:20

“Outseyeder
My concern is that people have become so afraid and compliant that actually they will never ever protest no matter what the government does.”

This 100% and to me that’s more scary than COVID. Those people saying as long as it takes. As long as what takes? The majority of diseases we have not completely got rid of and we won’t for covid either. Once the vulnerable have had their first dose it needs to be personal responsibility not regulations. I am willing to give it until Easter to get the vaccine rolled out but if the government mess that up then I think people will finally start to push back. Furlough is like a drug being used to keep people quiet and content when it goes and when people start loosing their businesses that’s when we will hear more push back.
