Under 18 sport

So secondary schools are having a delayed start, primary schools are shut in the most affected areas but is it ok for sport to continue such as football? From what I’ve read on the tier 4 guidance it says sport can continue outside. This is obviously good for fitness and mental well-being but it is still bringing people together that wouldn’t otherwise be meeting, as well as car sharing when kids can’t get to training. Surely sport for under 18s (specifically under 12 upwards and all ages where primaries are shut) should be suspended for 2 weeks just like secondary schools?

I think it depends on the sport really. DS rugby club has decided not to return to training regardless of the fact they could, because it’s the responsible thing to do. His running club are continuing because there’s no contact at all. I’m very grateful he has one sport he can continue with.

A lot have closed voluntarily whilst assessing the situation. Our football league has suspended games and the club isn’t training at the moment.

Thanks. Makes sense for running club to continue. I was just surprised to receive an email from DS football club saying training’s on and match next weekend. Maybe it’ll be reviewed. I think it’s good for well being and gives the kids something to do/focus on/look forward to but my concerns lie with the mixing on people. Numbers need to fall so education and other parts of society can open up.

I'm expecting my DCs football club to suspend training. It makes me so fucking sad.
Done safely, outside, the benefits of training / playing far outweighs the risks of my DCs becoming infected /infecting me and DH.

I would love junior sport to continue, and if it was purely the sport, then it wouldn’t be such a problem. But as has been said, the adult mixing that goes with it (coaches chatting, parents watching), and the inevitable lift sharing that foolishly happens, is the the reason it should be off.
