Kingston schools staying open

NC for obvious reasons but wondering why Kingston primary schools are staying open when other London boroughs with lower rates/number of cases are closing.
Not that I want them to close but I’m concerned they’ll close them too but with less warning!

@mrshoho

rumour here is that all London boroughs will be on the list by the weekend.
Yes this sounds very plausible/likely, this is my worry, that we will end up with even less time to plan for the children being at home during the week again. Not sure what the point was in splitting out the boroughs when things change so fast anyway, may as well have erred on side of inevitability and at least parents and schools can plan. Our school was extremely light touch on the hone schooling first time round so if it happens again I know I’ll be playing teacher all day every day.

Anyone looking for logic in this clusterfuck is shit out of luck.

Logic and Science (SAGE) says that all schools should close.

The government don't give a fuck

I have a primary school aged DC who goes to school in Kingston. We live in a neighbouring borough where primaries are shut. All of DC’s friends live in our borough. I’m quite puzzled that Kingston schools are staying open (though DC is very pleased).

Do these boroughs (the blue splodges that look like lakes) surrounded on all sides by areas deemed unsafe, have some mystical protection?

Gavin Williamson went to great lengths on TV this morning to say it's a very complex method to identify which schools are safe. We don't believe you Gavin. In Harrow it appears to be an admin error. Our hospital although based in Harrow is actually recorded as Brent. The pen pushers making up this list have no clue.

Meant to add, so on paper, Harrow has no hospital and therefore primary children returning will not cause any hospital strain. In reality NPH is our hospital and is seriously under pressure. What an absolute joke.

I had a little look at numbers last night, primary schools in Hackney are open, our figures for positive cases are higher in the primary age group than other areas with primary closures.

Our total numbers are also higher than some areas with primary closures.

The answer is Gavin is a clown. The worst minister by far. Out of his depth and an embarrassment

Yes this
mrshoho · 31/12/2020 11:25

It is nonsensical Simon. I believe Williamson was attempting damage limitation in his announcement by saying a very tiny number of schools would be affected, rather than having to say all of London as well as large areas of the South East. He is really really incompetent and causing so much confusion to primary schools leaders and parents in these areas. They know logically they should not be returning but until the dfe advise otherwise they are legally required to. All last minute as usual.

mrshoho · 01/01/2021 16:06

Well it's all kicking off now. Harrow Council has taken the decision to tell all primary schools to move to online from next week. Gavin Williamson would not back down so they have taken matters into their own hands. They have the backing of PHE .twitter.com/GarethThomasMP/status/1345008197640314881?s=09

Swimmingiscancelled · 01/01/2021 18:28

@SuziSeaside - has that actually been confirmed? It’s not on the beeb- yet?

I wonder what this means for Epsom and Ewell?

Thank you for sharing I hadn’t seen this!! Well that was inevitable but frustrating.
Incidentally Does anyone know if nurseries remain open?

twinketwinkle · 01/01/2021 20:01

I have never wanted schools to close, my DC really need it for their mental well-being, they struggled with lockdown. However I now agree that all tier 4 areas should be closed for at least 2 weeks. I'm in Ewell, it's as bad if not worse here than some areas of London.

Blueroses99 · 01/01/2021 20:07

So Kingston primary schools aren’t reopening this week then? Anyone seen anything official (other than the Guardian link) confirming either way?
