Is anyone braving booking a holiday for the summer?

Being inundated the past few days with e-mails from holiday companies with their January sale offers on. I'm actually really surprised how much they are pushing this considering most countries have banned UK travellers entering at this time, and things look pretty bleak for the next few months. I don't think I can personally face booking anything just yet despite being desperate for a 'proper' holiday (I had to much hassle trying to claim back money booked for holidays in 2020). Am I being too pessimistic? Boris after all appears pretty confident things will be looking much more optimistic by Easter time.

@bert3400 ... off to check the virgin website

Thanks!

@thenightsky I stayed at Sunrise Royal Makadi.

Still an incredible hotel and can still access the reef at Fort Arabesque next door for better snorkelling. Diving centre is still open at the Fort but shut at SRM.

I have been very ill at times in the past, which makes me tend to book holidays late in the day.

Our kids love Eurocamp but while,on the one hand, you get your own place, you are also surrounded by lots of other families,

And there is some trepidation about overseas travel what with the variants.

I am having a good think.I might have another think if and when we get the vaccine.

We have a holiday booked to a Greek island in June... hopefully it can go ahead.
Me too @WobbliHead3000

I booked it during first lockdown when i wanted something to look forward to. Felt like i was booking way ahead and things would be entirely back to normal long before my booking!

YouCanWorkItOut · 30/12/2020 21:31

I booked Cornwall last summer on our way back from Norfolk. We had such a fab time that we decided to stay in the UK again. Also got a break in the Netherlands and one in Lapland deferred from this year to next. Really hoping they can go ahead.

thenightsky · 30/12/2020 21:33

@DazedandConcerned The Fort is where I'm planning to go. Went 4 years ago and the reef in wading distance of the beach is the best I've seen. Plus the Fort is the only Egypt hotel I've been to and not got sick from the food.

DazedandConcerned · 30/12/2020 21:36

@thenightsky if you can’t get a good price at the Fort consider SRM. It has 6 ala cartes, never been sick and the best staff. Ask for block 15/16 if you stay there. Very central to the pool and restaurants.

Booked a UK cottage for school summer holidays as have a wedding to go to which hopefully will go ahead.

Babyrhinosarecute · 30/12/2020 21:40

Had 3 holidays abroad cancelled this year, so have now bought a caravan and keeping it in Cornwall on site, so hopefully be able to go for long weekends. Also own shower etc, so no sharing facilities. Looking forward to it - never thought I would , always a sun loving bod. But if the weather is like last year, yippee.

We booked a couple of weeks ago for a month in August in the US to visit my mother and sisters.

Regretting it a bit, tbh. But flights were mega-cheap (we are flying business class one direction, for the same price we have often paid for economy), our travel insurance was changing to not cover COVID stuff after our renewal, and the new strain hadn't yet been announced and vaccine news was good. I won't have seen my family for two full years by then.

We can isolate there quite easily if we need to, but I'm now quite anxious about the whole idea. Just hoping that the vaccines make enough of a difference by then.

porcupinepaw · 30/12/2020 22:12

It still feels to uncertain to be booking for next summer. We tend not to book this far ahead most years, but we don't tend to take package type holidays. We went on a UK holiday in July this year and it was stressful worrying about whether we'd be allowed to go, and if our money would be refunded if not. We almost booked a Christmas UK break and we're glad we didn't, as we wouldn't have been able to go and we might have got accommodation costs refunded but not travel. So I don't want that hassle, but if things look more positive closer to the time we'll book - I don't expect things will get fully booked for the kind of holidays we'd take.

halcyondays · 30/12/2020 22:24

We had booked one way before all this started but wouldn’t book anything now.

Decembersnowfall · 30/12/2020 22:26

Due to go to Asia in summer 2021 for a wedding which was rebooked from this year. Haven’t booked flights or anything yet although they are available....

Rubyrubyrubyred · 30/12/2020 22:27

We have two weeks in France 🇫🇷 in August booked

Joinedtosayhello · 30/12/2020 22:28

Nope. No chance of me sitting on a plane for hours whilst air gets recirculated until we’re in a better position.
We’ve been here before when Boris said life would have some semblance of normality by Christmas and things have got worse, not better so I don’t trust them saying things will be better by March.
Holiday companies have suffered massive losses so are pushing promotions like there’s no tomorrow. They don’t know any more than we do about how things will be in 3/6/9 months but if people book and even put down a deposit it means some money to help keep their companies afloat.

thenightsky · 30/12/2020 22:41

@DazedandConcerned Cheers for that info! Much appreciated. x

lcdododo · 30/12/2020 22:58

Absolutely!
Booked April school hols

elQuintoConyo · 31/12/2020 00:27

I'm in the EU. I'm not flying into the UK to se my family until we're all vaccinated. If the alternative is hospitalisation/long lasting illness/death, then too fucking right I'm not jetting off on holiday.

I'll make do with zoom.

Paleodiet · 31/12/2020 00:35

The activity holiday booked for June 2020 has been moved to May 2021. I am not holding my breath though and if I have to postpone again I will just shift the booking to 2022.

HollyGenneroMcClane · 31/12/2020 00:41

We had last year’s holiday cancelled at easter. Got all our money back fairly quickly as boRders closed. and it was not a cheap holiday. I know lots of people who went away in summer. So we have booked to go away this august, ensuring we had two weeks on return to quarantine if needed. But not to original destinTion,

RoseMartha · 31/12/2020 00:47

I havent done yet but would book a uk holiday in the summer.

WoahBodyforrrm · 31/12/2020 00:56

No, I'm definitely not booking anything atm ☹️
