Is anyone braving booking a holiday for the summer?

Being inundated the past few days with e-mails from holiday companies with their January sale offers on. I'm actually really surprised how much they are pushing this considering most countries have banned UK travellers entering at this time, and things look pretty bleak for the next few months. I don't think I can personally face booking anything just yet despite being desperate for a 'proper' holiday (I had to much hassle trying to claim back money booked for holidays in 2020). Am I being too pessimistic? Boris after all appears pretty confident things will be looking much more optimistic by Easter time.

Booked Spain for July. We can cancel with minimal loss of deposit until 6 weeks before and move it free of charge to next year.

Crazycatlady83 · 30/12/2020 20:09

Yes! Holiday booked in August and fully expect it to go! Holidays took place abroad last august so see no reason why they wouldn’t again! Plus I fully deserve a break!

jillypill · 30/12/2020 20:09

Good point about the restrictions, that's what puts be off tbh. Can't be arsed

AllDoneIn · 30/12/2020 20:10

Considering it. I'm a secondary teacher. My chances of getting to late July without Covid or a vaccine are vanishingly small. I'm at less risk on a plane than I am in school every single day.

Missmonkeypenny · 30/12/2020 20:10

We have one booked for May which was moved from last May. I dont think it'll go ahead and I wouldn't be booking anything if we didn't have that one.

Yamashita40 · 30/12/2020 20:11

I've got a week in Portugal for May half term. We just had to rebook the flights from last May.

Also a trip to Gran Canaria at the end of July. I'm more confident about this one. We don't have to pay for the hotel til we get there.

A few UK breaks as well. Not sure the Feb half term one will go ahead but think the others from April onwards will.

Couple of nights in a cottage with friends booked for the early summer. We'll be happy with beach walks and takeaways. DH has booked us a glamping thing in Norfolk with the children in the summer holidays. Again, beach and takeaways will suit us fine. I'm hoping I'll get to Ireland to see family at some point but nothing booked.

"Boris after all appears pretty confident things will be looking much more optimistic by Easter time."

And you trust him...? Hmm

Check the cancellation Ts & Cs.

Whirlwind14 · 30/12/2020 20:12

No.
Two holidays cancelled from this year. We should also be skiing now but we didn’t book it. Won’t be booking anything now until the vaccine is rolled out so that I know my parents are safe and hopefully DH (52) has been vaccinated too...

Really missing it all though. It would be good to have something to look forward to...

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 30/12/2020 20:13

I have our summer holiday from last summer they transferred .. who knows if we will go !

Lemoncheesecake31 · 30/12/2020 20:14

UK holiday in August. Hoping it’ll go ahead.

NYNY211 · 30/12/2020 20:15

I suppose holidays have to keep going.
I have booked 2 holidays for 2022.

I have a holiday booked for May 21 if it gets cancelled I will re book book for Sept!

Coasterfan · 30/12/2020 20:17

We have Devon booked for august pretty confident it will go ahead and wales for Easter, unsure about whether this one will or not...we would like to reschedule some of our 5 cancelled European theme park trips from this year but I m holding out, the family we had one arranged with thinks we should wait until October half term, I am hoping for may but thinking may well be July..., I wouldn’t book anything abroad just yet personally as I don’t like the disappointment!!

KitKat1985 · 30/12/2020 20:17

Hmm. I might look at something with really low deposits. Not sure if any companies are doing that at the moment.

I should say that me and DH are both NHS so should (hopefully!) both be vaccinated by the summer, but obviously travel depends on overall level of worldwide restrictions so no guarantee that means much.

We have a holiday abroad which was moved from last year . It's at the beginning of June so no idea what the situation will be regarding international travel at that time .

Hope to get a UK break as soon as cases go back down and we are allowed to travel again .

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 30/12/2020 20:19

No I lost £1.5k on last year's Asian holiday couldn't go on so not throwing good money after bad. Insurance wouldn't pay anything as fco said could travel even though not let in.

In time may book uk but waiting for picture to be clearer.

Silvergreen · 30/12/2020 20:19

Just a ticket for a festival. It feels unlikely to happen.

IcedPurple · 30/12/2020 20:19

@tootyfruitypickle

I can’t be bothered until restrictions are lifted. Just too much hassle booking day trips in advance and I definitely would rather stay in my house and walk around the local commons than go round a historical site wearing a mask.
Same. I was thinking of going to Italy this autumn - in a way it seemed like a great deal, what with lower prices, no crowds etc - but then I thought about having to wear masks, some attractions being closed, no breakfast buffets (say what you like but they are one of the highlights of hotel stays for me!) and thought nah, I'll save my money for when I can really enjoy the trip. Hopefully that will be in the not too distant future.
Silvergreen · 30/12/2020 20:20

I had to race back from the south of France last august to avoid a two week quarantine in August - it's not something I want to repeat.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 30/12/2020 20:21

We've got 2 weeks booked in the south of France in July. It will probably be ok because we live in France so if we are not restricted to our Departement we will be fine to make the drive.

I really want to book more places, this year we were supposed to go to Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Rome and Venice but all were cancelled. I don't want to book though because the faff of cancelled flights and bookings. I'll bide my time I think.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/12/2020 20:22

I had one booked this year that got cancelled so I've moved it to next July. Fingers crossed.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 30/12/2020 20:22

UK holiday booked for early June which was delayed from this year.

Hopefully that should be ok by then as all CV will be vaccinated by then

MardyBicardi · 30/12/2020 20:24

Nope. I can’t be bothered with re booking if there are loads of restrictions.
I will happily go somewhere in the uk if it’s unlikely we will be in tier 4 but really don’t want the disappointment of cancellations and the stress of getting refunds and rearranging.
I am quite happy to do this though, I am sure that I can make up for it in the future.

HeronLanyon · 30/12/2020 20:25

No. I am waiting to get at least first vaccine before thinking about it. ‘My projected date on that website was May/June. Then three month wait for booster - things may be clearer early autumn.

Scarby9 · 30/12/2020 20:26

I'm looking for a Lake District cottage for August. Positive thinking...
