Is anyone braving booking a holiday for the summer?

Being inundated the past few days with e-mails from holiday companies with their January sale offers on. I'm actually really surprised how much they are pushing this considering most countries have banned UK travellers entering at this time, and things look pretty bleak for the next few months. I don't think I can personally face booking anything just yet despite being desperate for a 'proper' holiday (I had to much hassle trying to claim back money booked for holidays in 2020). Am I being too pessimistic? Boris after all appears pretty confident things will be looking much more optimistic by Easter time.

A UK one for the summer that was moved from last year will hopefully go ahead. I wouldn't book abroad though.

Remmy123 · 30/12/2020 20:27

@elQuintoConyo yep it is hard ... it wiii be a very very long wait until we are all vaccinated!!

Randomrebel · 30/12/2020 20:28

We usually go abroad but I think its too risky for this year.

We may book a UK break in August as If Bojo says April I think its more likely to be August.

Pugliandreamer · 30/12/2020 20:29

We are booked for start of June, moved it from 2020. I'm sceptical (Italy).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2020 20:29

We've this years holiday postponed to next summer.

Blobby10 · 30/12/2020 20:30

I’m not booking anything - after all the promises of the last few months ie if you behave in lockdown we will be out of this. And” be good for lockdown 2 and it will be over by Christmas “ The government have got my hopes up and trashed them too many times . I can’t cope with holiday hours being trashed again

Blobby10 · 30/12/2020 20:31

Holiday hopes not hours 😩

MintyMabel · 30/12/2020 20:34

Staying put until I and my family have had the vaccine. Not hard, is it?

But you might well all have been vaccinated by summer.

We’d like to be able to visit friends in S England in the summer, we’re assuming things will be ok then, but not sure whether to book a place or not.

MozzchopsThirty · 30/12/2020 20:38

We had 3 cancelled this year but managed to get away for 3 too

Just waiting until lockdown is eased then we'll be off within a couple of days to either Dubai or Cuba

jillypill · 30/12/2020 20:40

Lots of my friends had big probs with getting refunds or rescheduling which has really put me off.

DazedandConcerned · 30/12/2020 20:41

@thenightsky I actually just got back from Egypt and am finishing my quarantine up.

The reefs are more colourful now with a year off from tourism. Less bleaching. I did some major snorkelling in Makadi Bay. Still as gorgeous as ever and can’t wait to be back.

Before everyone piles on yes I know I am a horrible person for going abroad yadda yadda.

ShopTattsyrup · 30/12/2020 20:42

I've picked up some very cheap flights to Dubrovnik for September - £40 return with luggage etc.

I decided if it happens it happens, if I lose the money it's £40, if it gets postponed then I still get to go to Dubrovnik (at some unspecified point in the future)!

Ugzbugz · 30/12/2020 20:44

@elQuintoConyo god for you, my child is under 16 so no plans for them so yes will be going if we can

Imissmoominmama · 30/12/2020 20:45

It spread globally because of international travel...

AnnaSW1 · 30/12/2020 20:46

I'm going to book one in England

WhiteChocTwix · 30/12/2020 20:47

We're thinking optimistically, trip to the Greek Islands booked for June. No DC, and we can isolate, so we'll go if we can.

bert3400 · 30/12/2020 20:49

Yep, I've booked 4 . First trip in June to New York. Virgin were selling Upper class for the cost of economy. Would be rude not too 🤞

BackwardsGoing · 30/12/2020 20:52

Just booked a summer break in a couple of weeks in local campsites and looking forward to 2022 for foreign travel. Not worth the hassle and uncertainty.

Tal45 · 30/12/2020 20:55

Went to Spain last summer and booked again for next summer. I need something to look forward to!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/12/2020 20:59

Nothing abroad but we've got 4 UK holidays booked for next year

notacooldad · 30/12/2020 21:02

No,I usually book a flight to somewhere at short notice and book accomdadation when I get there so I'll wait until I get the go ahead to travel.

Funkypolar · 30/12/2020 21:07

I’ve booked Australia for 2023. But no doubt there’ll be a new pandemic by then.

SendHelp30 · 30/12/2020 21:09

Yes, I’ve booked August & December and have last years easter holiday moved to May.

We managed to get away August this year and that was without a vaccine being rolled out.

Missh07 · 30/12/2020 21:11

elQuintoConyo well done you for finding it so easy to not want to escape our current reality!

thenightsky · 30/12/2020 21:12

@DazedandConcerned Thank you. Makadi Bay is where I'm looking to go too.
