Source?

Kdubs1981 · 30/12/2020 18:14

The plan is to delay it to within 12 weeks to get as many first doses as possible more quickly given the current crisis. People who have already been vaccinated with get the second dose, but later. I can understand if that's disappointing though, moving goal posts are so hard to cope with.

Nadhim Zahawi was just on radio 4

No, not cancelled, delayed. To ensure more coverage in the population in the shortest possible time. Very different.

Smiledwiththerisingsun · 30/12/2020 18:31

Ah yes @Judashascomeintosomemoney. More understandable.

Loads more people having 60% immunity is far far far better than a smaller amount haven't more immunity. Especially when there were no hospitalisation in anyone after they had the first dose!

satnighttakeaway · 30/12/2020 18:37

I think it's a good thing, the evidence is that the first doses give a fair level of protection so better to cover twice as many people

I dont always agree with Tony Blair but on this I think he's right

cptartapp · 30/12/2020 18:57

Yes. The most sensible decision made in ages.

SideboardOfDoom · 30/12/2020 19:00

I think the government are incompetent but this is a rare sensible decision. Completely the right thing to do.

Pomegranatespompom · 30/12/2020 19:04

The right decision.

PuzzledObserver · 30/12/2020 19:06

It’s not clear that they will actually postpone appointments for those who have already had the first instalment. They may go ahead with those, but use a longer interval for people who have yet to receive an appointment.

Unless of course you know different.

cptartapp · 30/12/2020 19:27

Hancock said those due second dose after 4th Jan would be rescheduled later.

That would be the sensible thing to do

Any 2nd dose appointments already booked in are not being cancelled. It's just from Monday, second dose appointments are going to be booked at any point up until 12 weeks after the 1st dose. None are being cancelled and 2nd doses can still be booked.
