I don't understand that list. Literally every single one of the five boroughs that surround my London Borough will have their schools closed but we will have our schools open. Our infection rates are through the roof. Some parents on our group WhatsApp have already stated they won't be sending their DCs into schools next week and I don't blame them.

Dogatetheleftovers · 30/12/2020 17:27

Why did bbc journalist only ask one question?

Bluewavescrashing · 30/12/2020 17:28

No staffing for Nightingales ffs!

Dogatetheleftovers · 30/12/2020 17:28

Usually the press have at least 2 questions

Many won't send them in I bet. People have lost trust.
christinarossetti19 · 30/12/2020 17:29

I wondered if Lewisham and Islington weren't on the list as punishment for their trying to stand up to the DfE before Xmas, although Waltham Forest are, and they did the same.

It's difficult to understand the rationale. My borough scores scarily highly on the numbers and increase in numbers, yet isn't on the list.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/12/2020 17:30

@GabsAlot

nightingale hospitals on standby funny london one looked cleared out
It was packed up in June so the Excel could have the space back, but so it could be stood up again relatively quickly.

Don’t know about the staffing, but I wouldn’t take it’s emptiness as a sign that it has been shut permanently.

christinarossetti19 · 30/12/2020 17:31

There aren't the staff, that's the the NHS have been saying all along.

Total vanity project, waste of space.

GabsAlot · 30/12/2020 17:33

achools are safe apparently unless theyre closed in which they arent

PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 17:33

Van tam said, we are in a dangerous, precarious, situation....

We have not even seen the Christmas issues yet...

But send them in..

Boris said school said school are safe... It's the mixing we are trying to combat 🙄

Sums it up.
theliverpoolone · 30/12/2020 17:33

I dont really understand - does he mean literally no online lessons, nothing, till at least 18th for secondaries? Wales and Scotland seem to be doing online lessons from 11th. Was he just talking about England? It was all as clear as mud to me.

OrangeSamphire · 30/12/2020 17:33

Strange not to see Lambeth on that list while Wandsworth is on it. Given that so many big communities are split between those two local authorities (Clapham, Streatham etc) and school children commute across LA boundaries all the time it seems weird.

But for some reason, local authorities persist in their belief that people live their lives within local authority boundaries. And government seems to do the same...

GabsAlot · 30/12/2020 17:34

they dont have the beds or equipment there though Rafa

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/12/2020 17:34

What the fuck is he waffling on about now?

MissMarpletheMurderer · 30/12/2020 17:35

Boris vSchools are safe,' ha fucking ha.' It's the mixing in schools amongst households that's the issue.' state the fucking obvious. So Boris just say it. Empty schools are safe, fill them and then we are in this shit.

PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 17:35

If I was a primary head teacher I would be contacting colleuge locally to say to parents and stand together...
. If you don't want to send dc in we will support you!!..

Stand together, thin out classes...

Let us keep them at home!!

GabsAlot · 30/12/2020 17:35

orange its like a soap opera they think noone leaves their areas

Sobeyondthehills · 30/12/2020 17:35

For fuck sake.

I can't celebrate Christmas or NYE with anyone but I can send my son in to school with 150 other bubbles because schools are safe.

Has the fuckwit talked to anyone in a school

He did just say schools are safe but it’s the mixing of households in them that’s the problem, didn’t he?
PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 17:37

Yes he did.

Please someone ask him specifically how it's safe.

the80sweregreat · 30/12/2020 17:38

They haven't a clue. Well, the experts do but they can't say what they really think I suppose.
itsgettingweird · 30/12/2020 17:38

"Schools are safe. It's the mixing of household that the problem"

I've literally heard as much shite as I can take now. Angry

AaronPurr · 30/12/2020 17:39

Yes, and he said it with a straight face.

Barracker · 30/12/2020 17:39

I zoned out just now when I should have listened properly...what did Johnson just answer to the question of how to handle parents who want to keep their children out of school but are required legally to send them in despite being in tier 4?
I heard him say "just send them in" but no clarity on whether punishments and fines would still ensue for those who refuse to comply.
