I think I need to test but I'm so scared

I'm sat here on my own. My kids are still in bed. I've had mild cold symptoms a couple of days but this morning I woke up with my chest drenched in sweat. The thermometer says I don't have a fever but I've never woken up like that before. No cough yet or loss of taste but I have that end of cold taste and tickle in my throat. I have to test, don't I, but I'm so scared.

In the nicest way, why are you scared? It's not too bad. Flowers

FabbyMagic · 29/12/2020 08:07

I get night sweats around the time of my period, did you feel really hot or was it just the sweat?

Are you scared because you have underlying conditions or for other reasons?

DecemberStar · 29/12/2020 08:09

Don't be scared OP! You might feel a bit rough for a couple of days, but statistically no more than that and quite possibly less.

Do you have a partner?

bathsh3ba · 29/12/2020 08:09

I'm due on my period but never had a night sweat. My chest felt hot but not the rest of me and it cooled when I sat up.

I'm scared of becoming really sick as my BMI is 40 and I'm scared I gave it to my kids or parents

No it's just me

No, you don't need to test. You don't have any of the symptoms.

HidingInTheToiletFor5minsPeace · 29/12/2020 08:11

The sooner you are tested the sooner you will either have your mind out at ease or can put plans in place at home with regards to your family.Flowers

LemonTT · 29/12/2020 08:11

The test isn’t going to change whether you do or don’t have COVID.

It will give you the information you need to deal with whatever happens. This means you can respond in the right way and get the right help,if you need it.

MinesAPintOfTea · 29/12/2020 08:12

The test is slightly unpleasant. Better to know one way or the other.

fluffiphlox · 29/12/2020 08:12

But you don’t seem to have the symptoms

FabbyMagic · 29/12/2020 08:12

Sorry you’re so worried, but statistics are overwhelmingly in your favour - I’m sure you would be fine even if you did have it.

I am also waiting for covid test result by the way!

WunWun · 29/12/2020 08:15

Please don't waste NHS resources when you don't need the test. You have none of the symptoms needed to test.

Diddlysquatty · 29/12/2020 08:15

To be honest I would not test on what you have described
Perhaps see how you feel today, if you still feel funny than maybe, but currently you don’t have any of the main official symptoms

herechickchickchickchick · 29/12/2020 08:15

Go and have a test

The "magic" three symptoms are bollocks

I had mild cold symptoms for three days then on the fourth day I came came down so hard ill I could move

I had a test done on the second day and guess what

Positive

HuckfromScandal · 29/12/2020 08:21

I am off for a test this morning,
I have cold symptoms, but was running a temp yesterday when I booked it.

I would far rather know and then take the right precautions, than worry that I may have it, I don’t see that as using resources, I see it as being pragmatic and sensible, although I suspect many on here will disagree.

Go get tested, and at least you know what you are dealing with.

LIZS · 29/12/2020 08:24

No point being scared, if you may have passed it on it is already done. You can only eliminate that possibility by testing.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 29/12/2020 08:24

The test isn’t going to change whether you have it or not or how you feel. You either have it or you don’t.

bathsh3ba · 29/12/2020 08:26

There are lots of tests available in my area. I've booked one for 10am. I really hope it comes back quick and it's negative...

WanderingMilly · 29/12/2020 08:28

Get tested, you need to know.
It isn't a waste of a test, what bollocks! The test is so that people can find out whether they have the virus or not and take appropriate action...and possibly stop infecting others.
In our area there are currently plenty of tests and it's better to know one way or another.

There is no need to be scared. The test itself is easy, I have had a couple administered by others and one I did myself at home.

It may be that you are negative, in which case you will be relieved. It may be that you are positive, in which case at least you will be armed with knowledge, can inform others, isolate and so on. Why spend all your time worrying and worrying and not knowing??

starfish4 · 29/12/2020 08:32

The vast majority are negative. If you've been mixing with parents outside your household and then turn out to be positive, at least that means they can then isolate and protect others. Also, anyone you've seen will have done so knowing there's a risk.

rainbowstardrops · 29/12/2020 08:34

Hope you feel better soon OP. It must be tough if you're sat on your own worrying.

Barbie222 · 29/12/2020 08:36

In the nicest way, could it be your age? That was a peri menopausal symptom for me. You could get a test but I'd probably wait to see if I got a cough or loss of taste.

TheUnwindingCableCar · 29/12/2020 08:37

This is a bit dramatic. You don't even have any symptoms.

Themanofmydreams · 29/12/2020 08:40

I get night sweats when my period is due.

bathsh3ba · 29/12/2020 08:41

I'm 38 which I think is a little young for peri menopause. In any case I have been terrified for weeks. I think for my mental health I need to know, at least it will be one less uncertainty
