Question about long covid

This isn’t to try and start upsetting people, I’m genuinely interested. What is the difference between long covid and things like post viral fatigue syndrome?

Long Covid is not just (or even mainly) fatigue, OP. It includes breathlessness, cough, increased sputum production, gastric reflux, heart dysrhythmias, impaired concentration, headaches, muscle pain, limited exercise tolerance, insomnia- there is a very long list and individual patients suffer different combinations of symptoms.
I am still breathless at 100 yards, nine months after being hospitalised with Covid, and in addition suffer relapses with coughing, muscle pain and fatigue every few weeks. I was previously fit, and long Covid has aged me 20 years.
Post viral fatigue itself is not one condition, but a blanket term for many forms of debility that can follow viral infections such as flu. Causation is not well understood for either that or long Covid, and research into both is ongoing.

There aren't strict definitions or distinctions.

We will know in about 5-6 years what is Long Covid (or not) & how it fits with other syndromes. There may be up to 4 different versions of LC some of which may be the same as post-viral fatigue.
