So dh friends brought some Xmas presents around on Wednesday and we have found out the tested positive for Covid. They were outside and we just exchanged presents but I obviously picked up the presents and cloth bag and I didn’t wash hands after this. It has been over five days since exposure now . Bil has rapid tests and I have taken one today which came back negative. I have no symptoms. I am in a support bubble with my mum who is in her seventies. Do you think I would have a positive result by now and am safe to continue to see my mum

Hey, we had my partners family test positive this week, handed over presents etc was fine, we both have no symptoms since last Sunday. However, when one of his family members got tested they also got tested with the rapid tests (came back negative) but a few days later the "real" one came back positive - they're not that reliable unfortunately!

It's highly unlikely you caught covid from them but I personally wouldn't risk it by having contact with a 70+ year old parent until at least 10 days.

@Flower3411at the drive in test centres what tests do they use?

We have stayed away from family all Christmas because of the slight risk. But mums mh is beginning to suffer and I feel like a visit to her would cheer her up

The rapid tests are really unreliable, I wouldn't risk it based on that.

Flower3411 · 28/12/2020 19:48

@Thirtymumma the drive in test use the proper ones, where you swab them yourself etc. I personally don't trust the quick result tests 100% now!

Thirtymumma · 28/12/2020 19:54

@Flower3411 I just assumed that they were the same as the drive through test ones as you have to swab exactly the same. The drive through results I got back in less than 24 hours .

We were exposed to Covid from 3 colleagues at work. I've not dared go near my parents, even though they've both been alone all over Christmas. We are isolating until new years day.

I know they are lonely but I'm not risking their lives when I can facetime them.

Thirtymumma · 28/12/2020 20:07

@cherrypie790 are you isolating for 10 days?

Yes, the first one got their positive test on the 22nd, so we've had 10 days.
