NHS isolate alert

Whirlwind14 · 28/12/2020 14:12

DH has just had notification to isolate for 6 days. So exposure would’ve been 23rd? He can’t think where he’s been...

I’m panicking now- has anyone had a notification and then gone on to develop symptoms or test positive?

Thanks

I’ve now messed around in the app and accidentally clicked he has a continuous cough- which he doesn’t!

It now says to isolate for 11 days!! He doesn’t have any symptoms. Can anyone help? How can we contact test and trace??

I had the same notification yesterday saying I need to isolate for 6 days as I was in close contact with someone who has tested positive on the 23rd.

I only went for a walk in the park on Weds with a friend and he is feeling well and hasn't even m taken a test, so I'm not sure why I have been asked to self isolate.

SunshineOutdoors · 28/12/2020 16:03

Yep I’m currently isolating until nye with no clue as to the contact. The contact would have been last Monday but was with my bro in law (support bubble) who hasn’t been told to Confused

SunshineOutdoors · 28/12/2020 16:04

No symptoms so far and I’m on day 7 now (notified on day 4) fingers crossed neither of us get it.

SunshineOutdoors · 28/12/2020 16:05

No idea about how to get it back to 6 instead of 11 days though, sorry.

Newnamefor2021 · 28/12/2020 16:06

My husband had two alerts on two phones. One his work phone which said isolate for 6 days and the other said 10 days. The one with the longer time would have had no contact with anyone. He doesn't take that phone out of his work van and he hasn't been anywhere other than work.

I think it's glitches. There is no chance it can be accurate when the one that was in peoples houses is longer than the original one. He has just had COVID a few weeks back too, so unlikely he could even pick anything up again now. I certainly have lost my faith in all the trace and track stuff. When he had COVID they were useless too.

WalkingOnStarshine · 28/12/2020 16:31

If he didn't go anywhere on 23rd it will most likely be a glitch in the app. As for the 11 days after clicking on cough, just ignore that and follow the 6 days.

FatGirlShrinking · 28/12/2020 16:36

Looking at case numbers today there were lots of tests completed 23rd that have only had results in the last 24 hrs.

Bear in mind you're being told to isolate for 10 days from the date of the sample being taken, you may have had contact with that person for up to 48 hrs before then. Contact is spending 15 mins or more within 2 metres of a person who has tested positive even if you were wearing a mask, or within 1 metre for anything more than 1 minute.

Whirlwind14 · 28/12/2020 16:39

Thanks everyone...
I’m hoping it’s a glitch with the app!

When I say he can’t think where he’s been- he popped into a shop to pick up a parcel but wasn’t there long enough to trigger the 10mins 2 m rule that I’ve read exposure is based on. Or perhaps it was there? Who knows!

I'm in exactly the same position. I did go out the day it said I had contact. I didn't meet anyone. I did a ninja shop in Sainsbury's the day it said contact occurred. There were no queues. I am baffled and pissed off.

tempnamechange98765 · 28/12/2020 16:40

Is it the app or actual track and trace?

I personally wouldn't pay any attention to the app if you can't trace who the contact might've been as I know a few people who've been told to isolate when they haven't been anywhere!

Lurkingforawhile · 28/12/2020 16:40

Don't worry about the extra days that you've added to the app. He will just need to keep count of the days he should have been isolating for. the app is private and nobody can see what is on it so he won't be in trouble for not isolating those extra 5-days.

Lurkingforawhile · 28/12/2020 16:42

Also the app is completely separate from track and trace so they won't be able to help! I isolated for 8 days as instructed. No ideas where the contact was. Some people have found data in the app which tells them but I didn't.

Lurkingforawhile · 28/12/2020 16:43

By the way the app was changed a few weeks ago to make it more sensitive. it's no longer just as simple as having contact within 2 metres for 15 minutes. the algorithm now calculate how close you've been somebody over a fluctuating period of time and distance.

orangeicecream · 28/12/2020 16:44

Not sure if this is true but I've heard that the app can pick up neighbours through adjoining walls or even cars parked next to each other if phones are left inside.

DownRightAmazing · 28/12/2020 16:57

If you go into the app and click on 'about this app' and then 'manage my data' it should tell you when contact occurred and when that person tested positive as well

Whirlwind14 · 28/12/2020 17:35

@DownRightAmazing thanks for that. Just checked his data and exposure was 23rd.

So presumably that means actual exposure as opposed to a glitch now that there’s a date?

If he was a named contact (as in one of his work guys) would the notification come through the app or via test and trace?

OP posts:
Whirlwind14 · 28/12/2020 17:40

My elderly parents spent Christmas Day with us so I’m worried (I know it was always going to be a risk we took) but I’m hoping that contact on 23rd would be too short a time to pass on on 25th...

I’m actually more worried about them than I am DH!

OP posts:
shellby28 · 28/12/2020 17:41

I've had the same, received notification on 26th December to say I'd been exposed on 19th. I'd only been to Lidl!

Diddlysquatty · 28/12/2020 17:43

If he was a named contact he would get a call from the actual test and trace service, not the app

SweetPeaPods · 28/12/2020 21:34

@DownRightAmazing thanks for this. I've had a notification last night and the only time I was out last week was my food shop at Asda which happens to be the same day as the app says. Really annoying!
