Asthma or covid?

My chest is so tight tonight I keep using my centolin inhaler but it's doing naff all so I'm going to go and find my spacer.

It's come on all of a sudden and sounds and exactly like my asthma cough but it won't fuck off

I've booked a test for tomorrow morning but I've just done a lateral flow test and that's negative so god knows what's going on.

Any asthmatics had covid? Did it sound / feel the same?

Do you have any antihistamine you could take?
Also have you got indigestion? I get reflux/indigestion and it makes me really short of breath which makes me think I need my inhaler when I don't.

Thanks I'll
Give that a go

I just want to give you what might be reassuring information, the fact that it seems to have gotten colder today (atleast here!) Probably means it points more to an asthma flare up than anything else.

How is it now? Any better after using your spacer?

If it isn't better and you've had your pump again, please, please contact 111.

I had similar, and it was my asthma,
I got some steroids and was told to take a fostair inhaler. Eventually had montelukast added to the list.

Please try not to worry about Covid, but do have this checked up on because worsening of asthma needs treating x

What preventer do you use, have you ever been advised to double it, and yes to the antihistamine and antacid.
I think you should contact 111. You can deteriorate quite quickly with a sudden onset of asthma and it becomes exhausting to breathe, if you have no other symptoms you may be seen.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 28/12/2020 07:06

You should be using a spacer all the time. Do you have a preventer inhaler? If it's brown clenil, I'd double it now.

Check your asthma plan; you can usually take up to 10 if the ventolin if needed but id try 2-4 and see how you are after 10 mins.

If you have a peak flow monitor check what it is and take a note.

I went from having (apparently) no asthma to needing a fancy dual inhaler as well as ventolin when necessary in the space of 4 years so perhaps get an appointment booked to review meds if you don't have CV.

it is colder which affected me yesterday evening.

CrocodilesCry · 28/12/2020 21:56

@Trollsinthedungeon are you ok?

A spacer makes such a difference if you use it for every dose of your inhalers - I'm so bad at using mine but trying to use it now especially as I'm at home all the time.

Just an update, I had a massive asthma attack on Sunday night. I just couldn't stop coughing and after 10 puffs of ventolin with my spacer it did f all so I got DH to call an ambulance. 1 hour later it arrived by which time I was exhausted from coughing. Had an immediate nebuliser, rushed to resus and treated with steroids and nebs.

Had to stay in for a couple of days because I'm just tired from coughing. My inhaler has been changed to fostair, I've got montelukast, a volumatic spacer instead of the little one as apparently it works better, and 5 days of steroids.

Don't take asthma lightly!

I keep meaning to reply to this I’m glad you’re ok now, but hopefully people reading this will take on board asthma can strike hard and relatively fast so always have in date inhalers and a plan
