Vaccination - anyone know anyone who''s had it (outside of major cities)

Chevron123 · 27/12/2020 13:55

So both DM and DMIL are waiting to be called for vaccinations. Both in their 80s, one with significant underlying health conditions. Neither has heard anything. Both live in small towns/relatively rural areas so I am guessing their GPs are not in a position to offer it yet. Both in Tier 4 areas.

I'm thinking I will call their surgeries next week to see what the expected timeframe is. My worry is that they won't hear the phone call (partially deaf) or won't know how to respond to an email.

I know two who've had it, both HCPs. One in a medium sized city, one in a large town.

TodgerStrunk · 27/12/2020 13:59

DM had it in a tier 2 area, she's 84 with a heart condition and cancer, and doesn't have email. She had to organise her own dial a ride to the next rural town over.

Lucyandbet · 27/12/2020 14:01

HCP in a small town.

Noname99 · 27/12/2020 14:01

Yes - friends parents. Both in 80’s but very fit & health (not living in care home) so assuming they were priority 2 due to age only. Live in small village in very rural somerset. Both had first vaccine last Saturday.

megletthesecond · 27/12/2020 14:02

I believe it's started in Basingstoke, large town 100k+. It's based in a hotel.

Does their local council website have a list of centres that are geared up for vaccinations?

starfish4 · 27/12/2020 14:02

My Auntie and Uncle live in a large village and have had theirs. They're 85/87. My Uncle is high risk though as he's had TB, lung cancer four years ago and two recent bouts of pneumonia.

FippertyGibbett · 27/12/2020 14:02

I know someone who works in a nursing home that’s had it.

whatswithtodaytoday · 27/12/2020 14:03

My 98 best old Nan lives in outer London and hasn't heard anything officially yet. My dad rang her GP (because she's deaf and doddery and couldn't be trusted to read a letter, let alone an email), and they don't have access to the vaccine yet in her area - it's expected in January. They'll arrange her transport when she gets an appointment.

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/12/2020 14:04

It’s down to logistics and priority.

They’ll get there!

LegoPandemic · 27/12/2020 14:04

I know various over 80s who have had in- Halifax, Skipton, Rotherham.
The only HCP I know who has had it was on the Oxford trial and was unblinded recently as her area gearing up to give Pfizer.

amymel2016 · 27/12/2020 14:04

Friends parents in northern rural costal town, tier 3

Chevron123 · 27/12/2020 14:04

That's all very reassuring - thanks.

Council website is a good idea and I will have a look. They both live in retirement flats so I'm assuming once one person gets the vaccination they will know about it - they might be locked down but they still seem to know everything that's going on in their block..

Somebody on the main vaccinations thread yesterday mentioned their relative in the "Deepest, darkest depths of Cornwall" (in their 80s I think) had received it.

SansaSnark · 27/12/2020 14:05

My grandmother has been offered it but was unable to get to the appointment. I know of another lady in her 80s in the area who has had it. Both in a large SW town. It's not being done via go surgeries, though.

MoirasRoses · 27/12/2020 14:06

Yep. My aunties partners have. 90+. They live in a small town in West Yorkshire. I live in a (large) village in W Yorks. The small cottage hospital here has just started vaccinating. I’m so pleased to see the signs directing people!

middleager · 27/12/2020 14:06

Here's the thread I mentioned. The post about Cornwall was made in the last couple of days:

trevthecat · 27/12/2020 14:10

Small town, my sister has had it (works in hospital, someone didn't turn up) aunt has (she is actually administering the vaccine) and my nan (93) is booked in next week at her doc surgery.

Ginogineli · 27/12/2020 14:14

my local gp has shared a facebook post saying they have just received 150 vaccines to cover 3 towns - priority is given to the over 85 with one or more other conditions

equally my nhs mates - non patient role have had it

yearinyearout · 27/12/2020 14:18

Yes I live in a small town and our surgery has been giving them since the start. Several of my friend's over 80 parents have had their first jab along with a few people I know who work in the nhs.

refusetobeasheep · 27/12/2020 14:21

My parents have their appointment on 1st January - mid eighties, Live in West Yorkshire so been stuck with severe restrictions for months.

Lindy2 · 27/12/2020 14:22

My mum has had her first one. She's in a village in Buckinghamshire. Not exactly rural but not a big city either. It was done at the local cottage hospital in her village.

pinbinpin · 27/12/2020 14:25

Small commuter town here outside London. I live near the community centre where it's based and have seen a regular progression of people who look in their eighties and above going in and out for about 2 weeks now.

I am not sure how non-mobile people are getting it. my friend (in his seventies, recently recovered from cancer) lives with his non mobile mother who is 99 and is her carer. Neither have heard anything.

CornishYarg · 27/12/2020 14:25

Our neighbours are in their 80s and had theirs just over a week ago. Small/medium sized town. I also know an HCP in London who's had hers.

FindHungrySamurai · 27/12/2020 14:27

Nonogenarian relative had it last week, she was the first person in her large village in a rural area.

Artus · 27/12/2020 14:29

Yes, mid-eighties parents last week. Small Yorkshire coastal town.
