Vaccination - anyone know anyone who''s had it (outside of major cities)

So both DM and DMIL are waiting to be called for vaccinations. Both in their 80s, one with significant underlying health conditions. Neither has heard anything. Both live in small towns/relatively rural areas so I am guessing their GPs are not in a position to offer it yet. Both in Tier 4 areas.

I'm thinking I will call their surgeries next week to see what the expected timeframe is. My worry is that they won't hear the phone call (partially deaf) or won't know how to respond to an email.

My DM who is 81 has had her first jab and due her 2nd on 9th January. She lives in a small rural town in Kent.

I’ve had the first part, second part in a couple of days.

I’m an ICU nurse and we were offered it the day it was rolled out. I work in a large hospital in a big town. My 93 yo gran is desperate for it but hasn’t heard anything yet.

Parents in their 80s having it on Tuesday. Large village in Northumberland but having to travel to a town approximately 12 miles away, being done at the town cricket club!

CMOTDibbler · 27/12/2020 18:36

FIL in early 80's had it last week in Gloucs. My neighbour has been temperature scanning people coming in for it (as a volunteer) in our very small town in Worcs this week and said they had done several hundred people just when she was volunteering

I’ve been working on getting some of the sites up and running. We had four sites we were trying to get vaccines to - two were approved before Christmas and two for after. The ones that were approved received 975 doses of vaccine for approx 3000 over 80s, and we’ve been inviting in care home staff as well, so not everyone who is eligible for a vaccine has been invited.

Lots of primary care sites are being cautious - once you get a delivery of vaccine you only have about 3 days to use it so you need to be sure you have trained staff in place - not easy in Christmas week. I’m sure if you haven’t heard in your area you will in the next couple of weeks.

I wouldn’t recommend calling your GP practice - lots of them won’t know and they are crazy busy at the moment.

Over-80s in our rural West Country village have had it. Had to travel to the nearest city though.

Bathroom12345 · 27/12/2020 18:46

Both parents in London. Divorced and of course live In different parts of the capital and one is in a care home. Late 80’s. No sign of the vaccine.

ths1 · 27/12/2020 18:46

My parents (80 and 86) had theirs a couple of weeks ago. West Hertfordshire.

BrokenCircle · 27/12/2020 18:48

My mother called her doctor and has the jab the next day.

ElizabethG81 · 27/12/2020 18:50

My grandparents (both over 80) have had it, they're in a small town.

Witchend · 27/12/2020 18:54

It's being done up the road in our little estate. Must be a fair number judging by all the cars. I know three who have had it done, and about another half dozen who have it booked for the new year.
I think I'd describe us as a small town (and we're an estate off it)

ProfYaffle · 27/12/2020 18:57

FIL has had it - Norwich.

flowerycurtain · 27/12/2020 19:00

Rural farmer in Northamptonshire here.

Post cancer 81 year old father had it. He said he felt like a spring chicken when he went as most others were 90 plus.

One thing to note was he received a text at 5pm on a Sunday to go in on Tuesday. It was a piece of luck he looked at his phone as he never looks at it Normally!

Please don’t ring the GP to chase the timeline, such a waste of their resource and will not speed it up. You will be contacted when it’s your turn.

78percentLindt · 27/12/2020 19:16

Yes, a friend is working in a primary care centre giving it to over 80s. She was given one as well, presumably to protect her and to avoid wasting a dose. She said they have been really busy and was exhausted when I spoke to her..
Medium sized town.

MrsBennetsnerves · 27/12/2020 19:24

DF had his first one beforeChristmas. He's in his late 80s and lives in a Kent seaside town.

MrsBennetsnerves · 27/12/2020 19:26

MIL in Sussex, also over 80 is still waiting.

ItsCovidOutThereThisChristmas · 27/12/2020 19:44

My friend's mother in Berkshire has had the vaccine

CosmicComfort · 27/12/2020 19:54

Frontline NHS here, having it next week. Medium sized town.

Kitkat151 · 27/12/2020 19:54

DM had hers a week ago....at her gp practice in a large village in north yorkshire

Mrsorganmorgan · 27/12/2020 20:25

My daughter, front line nurse, 2 weeks ago in South Wales.

ScottishBetty · 27/12/2020 20:27

Yes I know one person in great health (80+) who's had it, whereas my grandmother who is also 80+ and has dementia hasn't been offered it yet (they live in the same town).

kursaalflyer · 27/12/2020 20:38

Yes, Essex apparently is doing well. My mum, 92, in a small village in Essex has had her first one, next due on 6th Jan.

reginafalange2020 · 27/12/2020 21:01

I'm a nurse. I was involved in vaccinating just under 1000 over 85s in early December.
I live fairly rural where the elderly population is quite large.

The transport and storage of the vaccine is a bit of a faff and logistically more complicated but I think that will get easier with time so I'm sure your elderly relatives won't have to wait for long.

EmmanuelleMakro · 28/12/2020 11:09

I am seriously impressed given the logistical and practical problems that do many have been done so quickly-really encouraging!
