Vaccination - anyone know anyone who''s had it (outside of major cities)

So both DM and DMIL are waiting to be called for vaccinations. Both in their 80s, one with significant underlying health conditions. Neither has heard anything. Both live in small towns/relatively rural areas so I am guessing their GPs are not in a position to offer it yet. Both in Tier 4 areas.

I'm thinking I will call their surgeries next week to see what the expected timeframe is. My worry is that they won't hear the phone call (partially deaf) or won't know how to respond to an email.

Me. Several friends. All HCPs in small city

My Nanna in tier two has had it, she lives semi-rurally and is in good health, lives independently, is 91. Second jab booked for 12 Jan.

She was called to attend, jab given not by her local GP but by a GP two villages along. She says it was all very organised and well run! Very busy but people kept well separated.

No. My parents are 87 and 85. My Dad was contacted over two weeks ago by his GP surgery to enquire if he wanted it and to reply ASAP if so. He’s heard nothing since. My mother, with a different GP surgery, hasn’t been contacted at all.

Neighbours of their’s were due to have their first vaccinations over a week ago but the clinic was cancelled at the last minute and hasn’t yet been rescheduled.

We’re in a small town in the West Midlands.

ProudAuntie76 · 27/12/2020 14:35

I’m a nurse in a nursing home.

I know two people who have had it, both relatives in Scotland, one working in a hospital, one working on the community as a carer. One of them was due to have the second dose this week but caught Covid a week after the first dose.

The only other person I know who claims to have had it is a lay nun/sister in her 70s in England. I highly doubt that she’s had it (she’s not priority and won’t say when or how she got it and when her second dose is) and strongly suspect she’s lying so she can go on flouting the rules around social distancing as she has been for the entire Covid period. She’s been mixing households, having lots of people from different households in her car, putting lots of people at risk.

I’m in between two hospital hubs, working in a good sized town. The only people I’ve heard that have had for sure it are NHS staff. Currently we are being told that care homes will get it by the end of February. I don’t know any over 80s in the community who have had it bar one person.

My parents (85 and 86) have both had it through their primary care network consisting of 5 surgeries. They were impressed with how efficient the system was.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/12/2020 14:42

Very rural Cornwall here and 975 vaccines duly delivered in to the arms of people over 80 in a community healthcare hub. (Five GP practices joining together for this).
We are almost 50 miles from the nearest city and hospital.

Ginogineli · 27/12/2020 14:52

975!!! God we are north west, just outside Liverpool with sky high cases and got 150!

FuzzyPuffling · 27/12/2020 14:59

The 975 was for a cohort of 3400 over 80s, plus local healthcare staff. We have a very high percentage of older people here and are geographically remote from hospitals.

BigWoollyJumpers · 27/12/2020 15:00

Locally we have a large central hospital, and three other local smaller hubs, two in villages, and one in a town. Lots and lots of people getting vaccinated.

Numbersarefun · 27/12/2020 15:07

MIL has had it. South Norfolk.

cautiouscovidity · 27/12/2020 15:13

My great aunt (in her 90s) had it in south Devon last week. She lives at home and went to a local temporary vaccination centre (I think a sports hall locally).

EmmanuelleMakro · 27/12/2020 15:16

My parents in their 80s, no underlying conditions have had one dose about 10 days ago, small town on the South Coast. Had a hone call from their GP.

EmmanuelleMakro · 27/12/2020 15:18

They were impressed with how efficient the system was Mine too! They were expecting conveyor belt or chaos but really well looked after.

Tearsfortiers · 27/12/2020 15:20

My 16 year old niece who lives rurally has had it.

Windyone · 27/12/2020 15:20

I think most over 80s will need to wait for the Astra Zeneca to be approved. Fingers crossed for this week.

Thatsnotmynamename · 27/12/2020 15:25

Uk population of 80+ years of age is 3.2 million and I think that there have been around 800,000 vaccinations carried out so far.

Plus lots of the vaccines have been used for care workers so that is not 800,000 used on the over 80s - not sure what the split has been. So still a long way to go with Pfizer before all 80+ year olds could be done, would a rough guess of 1 in 6 over 80s be anywhere near accurate? Also not sure how many Pfizer vaccine double doses are in the UK now? Do we have 3.2 million double doses for over 80s available, plus the number used for care workers? So could all over 80s even be done with the Pfizer vaccines we have available?

Roll out date for Oxford is rumoured to be 4th Jan, so hopefully once that's confirmed GPs will be able to book in all those over 80s who've not been done yet.

janetmendoza · 27/12/2020 15:38

Loads of people all over south essex

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 27/12/2020 16:07

Yes, rural Leicestershire and Portsmouth

SouthKoreaquestion · 27/12/2020 16:20

I know a GP who has had it. Works at a practice in a small town in Staffordshire.

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 27/12/2020 16:23

I'm in North Kent. A nurse friend had it last week. I've seen lots of 80+ waiting at my gp to have it done and I know the local healthcare team will be going into some local nursing homes this week so it's definitely coming. My Dad is 82 and not heard anything yet though so we'll see how it pans out.

ArtemisBean · 27/12/2020 16:33

My 86-year-old relative was told by his gp that the over 80s in his area are being selected at random. Not in order of vulnerability, surname or age. Basically names being pulled out of a hat.

EmmanuelleMakro · 27/12/2020 17:10

That would explain why my mother who is (just) 80 and has no underlying conditions or vulnerability was called by the GO and not my father (who has). Luckily sense prevailed and they were done at the same time.

EmmanuelleMakro · 27/12/2020 17:11

And father is also older, so logically should have been earlier...

Bromeliad · 27/12/2020 17:12

My 92 year old CEV grandma hasn't heard anything yet. Lives very rurally on the edge of a tier 4 area. It's a county renowned for not being the quickest off the mark though so we weren't expecting anything yet. She's still stuck on her own in her bungalow for at least another month, it's not great.

InterfectoremVulpes · 27/12/2020 17:23

PiLs had theirs a few days ago (both mid 80's)
