So upset

Merry Christmas guys, my husband tested positive this morning, and I have also started showing signs so went to get tested. We have a 23 month old who is showing no signs at the moment but I'm so upset that she may/will get it from us.

Has anyone else had a toddler get it and how did you/they cope?

I have such an awful headache I can't get rid of, a sore throat, I ache from top to toe and a heavy chest. None of the symptoms noted by the government, my husband had the same symptoms too.

I'm just feeling sad

Sorry you're going through this on Christmas Day, just for a bit of reassurance by toddler niece tested positive but showed pretty much no symptoms and was fine. Her mum who did have some symptoms had it very mild and was fine in a day or two, they managed ok. Hope you're feeling better soon Thanks

They are symptoms noted by the government, op. I presume you have a temperature too - hot and cold. However you may not have covid, wait and see.

I do hope you feel better soon.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 25/12/2020 15:42

Jesstan they are not symptoms noted by government. I have same symptoms as OP plus sore eyes. Test and trace said I am classed as asymptomatic as I don’t have the 3 main symptoms xx

My secondary school teacher daughter tested positive today. She's only got cold symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, headache)

hitsvilleuk · 25/12/2020 16:16

Headache and aching limbs was how mine started - then temperature later in the day and cough a week later.
No sore throat though

santasmincepie · 25/12/2020 16:28

OP me and my DP both tested positive. DS is 14 months and hasn't had any symptoms at all. Your DD will hopefully be the same

Friolero · 25/12/2020 16:31

I tested positive yesterday. My main symptoms were headache and sore throat initially, and now a cough. DS also has it but feels fine.

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 25/12/2020 16:40

I wish the government would update the symptoms. Everyone I know who’s tested positive in the last few weeks has started with a headache, including myself. Please try not to worry op. Dh and I tested positive last week along with ds who bought it home from school. Then my 20 month old and 12 year old tested positive on Tuesday. My toddler woke up on Monday with a raging temperature and was sick all over dh but since then has been mildly poorly. Worth knowing that for her ibuprofen seems more effective than paracetamol at bringing her temperature down and making her feel better. I was so sad on Tuesday to lose my smell and taste but it’s back today so it really didn’t last long.

Greenphonegirl · 25/12/2020 16:44

I can only speak about my own experience, everyone's could be different and obviously where appropriate Seek medical help if need but I tested positive back in April my ds 2 was absolutely fine. He didn't have a test so I don't don't whether he got it or not but he displayed no symptoms as for me u was exhausted with the worst headache ever but lasted about 10 days in all

Victoria157 · 25/12/2020 16:46

Oh you poor thing, it's just awful isn't it - I hope I can reassure you. It went through my household a couple of months ago too. I handled it by far the worst - felt like a bad flu but was completely recovered by day 10. It was short & intense for my husband but he recovered within 4 days. My 3 year old had a very high fever for 1 night and we think a cough for a day. She was completely unfazed. My then 6 month old slept a little more than usual but seemed completely unaffected - i was cosleeping & breastfeeding so have no doubt that he was exposed, but he handled it the best of all of us. Rest up - it's so hard to be sick & with kids to take care of xxx

Creamegg11 · 25/12/2020 16:57

Another one that has a bad headache. Husband and eldest daughter tested positive six days before I did. I assumed that I have a bad cold, have chills, sneezing and the headache is the worst. I agree with others that the government should change the symptoms awareness as many would just think they have a cold and dismiss Covid and not get tested.

My eldest didn’t display any symptoms and my youngest we are still waiting for her test results but she seems perfectly fine so fortunately the symptoms doesn’t appear to affect the young ones like they do us.

ConfusedcomMum · 25/12/2020 16:58

My 18 month toddler had it last week and had streaming eyes. Skin felt cold and clammy (no temperature though). I made sure they were wearing extra layers and socks throughout. Just keep checking oxygen levels with an oximeter and temperature with a thermometer. I think it lasted 4 days at most. I had the virus myself so felt pretty fatigued but I've got older DCs so they did a good job at keeping the toddler company although they were more clingy than usual. It was definitely quite a mild illness for them.

ConfusedcomMum · 25/12/2020 16:59

And yes my first symptom was a very bad headache, chills and lower back pain radiating down my legs (think it went to my kidneys).

Disorganisedfish · 25/12/2020 17:00

Just wanted to reassure you, I had it quite badly and my son had been sleeping in my bed and still never got it. I was SO worried though so I totally understand. Just take each day as it comes and deal with what’s in front of you - I hope you all are okay very soon Flowers

MintyMabel · 25/12/2020 17:03

It’s possible you have asymptotic Covid but have also picked up a cold or flu bug. That can happen too.

ConfusedcomMum · 25/12/2020 17:04

I just wanted to add my senses of smell and taste only started to get affected on day 4 and my cough only started post covid so had I relied on those symptoms to self isolate then I would have been out and about amongst the public with covid for 4 days at least (luckily I didn't!).

This for me as well! I only got tested as we had an outbreak at work. 13 of us all got ill around the same time and it was about 5-7 days we all seemed to lose our sense of taste and smell. Lots of us never got a cough at all. It really did just feel like a bad cold to start with - but I was incredibly tired which was my main symptom.
ConfusedcomMum · 25/12/2020 17:11

Yes Disorganisedfish! Actually if I have to pick the very very first symptom, it was overwhelming tiredness. THAT needs to be one of the official listed symptoms in order to qualify for a test. Even very mildy affected sufferers have mentioned the fatigue.
