Drive thru test when I’m positive

ToastieSnowy · 25/12/2020 14:09

I have Covid. Had positive test a week ago. Both my kids have developed symptoms this morning, fabulous Christmas present.

I need to get them tested. The drive thru option says “It’s safe to visit a drive-through test site if you’re self-isolating.“

I have brain fog. Does that mean I can take my kids to the drive thru Covid test when I’m positive or does this mean people self isolating with no symptoms are ok to go? Google not helping.

You wear a mask and go.

zzizz · 25/12/2020 14:22

Well yes, lots of people will be positive when they're getting tested OP. They'll treat you as such and only let you wind down windows at one point.

Are you well enough to drive though?

Lindy2 · 25/12/2020 14:58

Wear a mask and tell the people at the test centre you have tested positive so that they can make sure they are 100% careful when they communicate with you. Perhaps hold a note upto the driver's window for them to read before you start speaking. They may prefer to talk to you through a fully closed window or by phone in the circumstances.

I hope you and your children are ok.

ProbablyFault · 25/12/2020 15:19

I've been to the drive through a few times, and they already either talk to you by phone or by yelling through a closed window.

Hope you're all okay OP.

Thank you all. I think I’ve managed to book a home test kit for at least one of them. Not sure about DS1, we’ll see what turns up. If only one kit, I’ll book the other for a drive thru test.

Yes you can take them. They treat everyone as though they are positive, because of course many are.

ToastieSnowy · 25/12/2020 15:43

Ah I’ve got two confirmation emails for home test, one for each of the DCs. I prefer this to going out, glad I asked. Appreciate it

Are home tests being delivered over Christmas? I would have thought the earliest it would arrive would be Tuesday as Monday is a Bank Holiday so its going to be at least a week until you get results

It is only a bank holiday today and Monday isn't it? Amazon delivered my home test kit..amazon deliver Sundays. Hooefully you will get it tomorrow.
ToastieSnowy · 25/12/2020 17:31

I don’t know the answer to that. I’ll let you know when it arrives.

I’ve had a email tonight (Boxing Day) to say both tests will arrive tomorrow (sun 27th). I’m pretty impressed.

Thankfully I’ve not heard my youngest cough today so I’m hoping I panicked a bit on Christmas Day. My eldest is the same as yesterday.

@Bacter what time did the collection say on the postbox you posted it in?

Hapixmas · 26/12/2020 19:34

When I did a postal it went like this:
Tuesday tests ordered, Wednesday tests received and posted off in time for 4pm collection. Thursday morning it arrived at lab, results back Saturday morning and Sunday morning (4 of us tested, 3 back Sat and 1 on Sunday)

This was October so not Christmas time. I assume once it arrives in lab though that testing will happen as normal.

Hapixmas · 26/12/2020 19:36

I've looked on Post Office and for the 26th December, the post office will work on the collection times of Sundays. You should be able to track the parcel.

The tests did arrive Sunday and a courier picked them up Monday morning. Very impressed.

Fingerscrossed my DCs are negative

Why do they need tested? Surely they are isolating anyway ?

ToastieSnowy · 30/12/2020 10:07

My self isolation finished yesterday because I have no temp, never have had one. That I’ve not yet started to recover is moot.

One son is positive which means we start self isolation again under his first day of symptoms. Do you see the logic?

Oh my goodness OP that's crazy !
