Where can I get a rapid test done

I know it's highly unlikely.
But does anyone know where I could get a rapid covid test done same day?

South East (pref Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey)

I have a cold and don't want to see my immunocompromised father tomorrow if this is covid 😩

(We are in a Tier 2 area and it's permitted to see family on Xmas day)

I’m not sure OP but that’s awful timing Xmas Sad

Would you still go even if it’s a regular cold?

Nearlytherenext · 24/12/2020 09:51

Rubbish timing. Yes if covid wasn't around i would still go.
But I'm just not sure if this is/isn't and would hate to spread it if it is covid 😩

Boots? I’ve got email from them a couple of weeks ago that they start doing testing people who don’t have symptoms, not sure if it’s applying to you but you can try.
Hope it’s just a cold.

SpnBaby1967 · 24/12/2020 10:27

Superdrug were doing them I think?

helloxhristmas · 24/12/2020 10:28

Check your local private hospital - mine is doing them but we're Kent

AcornAutumn · 24/12/2020 10:29

I’m afraid I wouldn’t want to give him, or anybody, a cold so I think it’s kind of irrelevant.

Redcrayons · 24/12/2020 10:35

Are you close to the mass testing areas? There’s a list on BBC site.

The ones near me are rammed today, so be prepared to queue.

Elfiethegreat · 24/12/2020 10:36

I think you should cancel really. You shouldn't be going anywhere near an immunocompromised person when you have a cold.

HopeAndDriftWood · 24/12/2020 10:36

I’d usually go with a cold, but I don’t think I would this year - our local council has put a load of warnings out about people being more vulnerable to Covid when they’re already ill with a cold/flu. J think I’d just sadly call it off this year...

But otherwise; you’ll need to find your nearest rapid test centre. I’m not sure how many tier 2s have those set up... we have two drop in lateral test centres opening near us in tier 3, although I believe the effectiveness is somewhere around 55% so it might not make you feel confident enough to go. A proper test probably won’t be back before tomorrow but you could give it a try.

Check your local council website. We are West London and 3 walk in places have been set up in the last week. Otherwise your best bet is a chemist or private medical place (e.g. Bupa).

Doje · 24/12/2020 10:54

Check your local authority website. However, I went yesterday and my local one was shut today I'm afraid.

Mousehole10 · 24/12/2020 12:57

Sorry I don’t think you’ll have much luck around here, private tests have been booked up for weeks and it’s now Xmas eve. I wouldn’t be seeing your dad, it’s quite possibly covid. I have had friends with cold symptoms test positive the last week, looks like the new strain causes more cold symptoms. It’s a shame at Christmas but just not worth the risk.

Mousehole10 · 24/12/2020 12:58

Also bear in mind your can’t enter a tier 4 area so Berkshire is out!
