A colleague asked me if I knew how long this will be for as our pub will close.
I thought I heard Matt Hancock say recently it maybe until Easter.
What does anyone else think or understand for the next restrictions.

I have a time and date countdown on my phone to Easter as that’s when I think things will start to improve. It’s 14 weeks away if anyone wanted to know.

Sexnotgender · 24/12/2020 17:59

Fuck I hope not😫

Oblomov20 · 24/12/2020 18:03

Till easter? Till the vaccine starts to kick in.

InTheLongGrass · 24/12/2020 18:07

Even if you drop back to tier 3, the pubs and restaurants are still takeaway only.

NailsNeedDoing · 24/12/2020 18:12

People won’t take it seriously enough if semi lockdown with schools open goes on much longer, they’re already making their own choices with the information they have because some of the governments choices don’t make sense for them.

Sedona123 · 24/12/2020 18:15

Possibly not. Houston, Texas had a more infectious strain of coronavirus in September. I don't think that it lasted for very long? The virus mutates every couple of weeks, so hopefully this more contagious mutation wouldn't last very long.

Lockdowns don’t work.
I fear for the hospitality trade and for pubs 🥲

luckylavender · 24/12/2020 18:35

I think Easter

PatchworkElmer · 24/12/2020 19:05

Honestly, I have no idea. Hopefully things will be brighter by Easter.

User158340 · 24/12/2020 19:09

We can write January off. If education is kept somewhat 'covid secure' or kept online then we can open up back into the tiers late in Jan or into Feb.

If the red line is the schools staying open without adequate testing etc or safety measures, then, yes, the next term will pretty much be tier 4.

AuntieMarys · 24/12/2020 19:14

I'm assuming April at the earliest.

Stellaris22 · 24/12/2020 19:41

Considering people can't even stick to not traveling excessively in their own tiers .....

This will never end.

SkySports · 24/12/2020 19:44

If the hysterical have their way it will be until not 1 single person in the entire UK has the virus..... so probably forever then.

sweetchristmastime · 24/12/2020 19:50

Yes Easter. While the schools are open we've got no chance

whatisforteamum · 24/12/2020 21:45

Is there even a tier 5.?

OP posts:
HainaultViaNewburyPark · 24/12/2020 21:49

There wasn’t a tier 4 until about a week ago. (At least not in England).

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2020 21:49

I remember saying in the Summer 'I wonder if we will be wearing masks with snowmen/reindeers on by Christmas' How we laughed-'nooo it will be all over by then' we said. Hmm

I think with people gathering tomorrow, and the Universities returning and schools reopening (if they do) it's going to be months rather then weeks. We really need the vaccination programme to be much much quicker too.

Spiratedaway · 24/12/2020 22:09

End of jan any longer no econoo

Spiratedaway · 24/12/2020 22:09

Economy

notevenat20 · 24/12/2020 22:11

The big question is if there will be a tier 5 or not.

notevenat20 · 24/12/2020 22:11

The universities going back is going to be a disaster for a lot of areas.

sleepwouldbenice · 24/12/2020 22:37

I don't understand why people are saying they didn't expect it to worsen over winter. Scientists always said this would happen

RememberSelfCompassion · 25/12/2020 00:23

I cant predict anymore

Before xmas I thought they'd be teliing schools to close and they were threatening Greenwich if they did. I was compeltely shocked.

I hope they can close schools apart from those vulnerable. Its destroying so many livelihoods closing everything else "for schools" when its blatently transmitting there.

Id be up for hitting it hard like in australia. They shut down Sydney for 70 cases. We have more than that locally...

Womencanlift · 25/12/2020 06:25

@RememberSelfCompassion I came on to say the same thing - I have friends in Sydney who have been living normal lives for months. Everything open (with some minimal restrictions) and their economy has been fine

Our economy is in its knees because we came out of this too early and we have had incompetence since. All this stop/start of reopening is causing more problems

We need a full, proper lockdown Australian style including closed borders to get a grip on this otherwise I fear we will be celebrating next Christmas the same as this one
