DH's parents are very vulnerable so we can't see them over Christmas. My parents aren't and seeing them would be within the covid rules. We've decided that as we can't see the in laws we also won't see my mum and dad, that way it's fair on everyone. My parents aren't happy about it though.

AIBU? I'm not sure what to do for the best really.

@PeterPanNeverLands

I don't really see the point tbh. You can't see your inlaws why does that translate to won't see your parents?

It doesn't fair to everyone at all. The opposite actually.

This is pointless! And unfair! Have you also priced out their gifts so you spend exactly the same on both couples? It has been a horrible year. If you can bring some happiness to your parents do it. Hopefully your husband will not be jealous and sulk about it?

@MistleTOEboughski

What is this some alternative AIBU where the OP listens and starts being reasonable???
OUTRAGED I TELL YOU!

Good decision!!

YABU - you never know what tomorrow could bring - spend time with your parents - it won’t make any difference to your DHs parents.

Anothertiredmother · 23/12/2020 22:02

Just saw your update - you’ve made the right decision

WhatKatyDidNxt · 23/12/2020 22:06

Life isn’t fair Confused. The 2 issues are separate. As others have said, what happens if your dad breaks his leg?!

FastandLoose · 23/12/2020 22:09

I would absolutely see your parents if you can. It’s a shame you can’t see the in laws, but that’s not a reason for your parents and you to suffer, assuming you’d all choose to see each other. This whole thing’s a shitshow without making it worse for ourselves unnecessarily.

Ok! Just read the actual thread. Right choice! Enjoy!

That's great news, OP! Mumsnet actually achieved something positive today!
