Do you know anyone who’s had the vaccine?

I know two people aged over 80 and both have now been contacted with regards to having the vaccine. One of them is due to have his tomorrow. Have the elderly people you know been contacted/had the vaccine yet?

Yes and a few hcps.

GreenPlum · 23/12/2020 04:42

My dad is 88 and having his first shot tomorrow.

MonkeyPuddle · 23/12/2020 04:45

My 86 year old step dad had it last week.
I know numerous HCPs and admin who have had it. I should have had it but am breastfeeding so will be waiting til I stop/they revise the guidelines.

Sparklingbrook · 23/12/2020 04:47

My parents (80) had their first one last Saturday.

peasoup8 · 23/12/2020 04:48

What number of vaccinations do they need to reach before life can return to normal I wonder? Personally I think to have vaccinated half a million people already is actually quite impressive, although I know others will disagree!

My 91 year old Grandma had hers on Saturday- such a positive moment as she's been so anxious! Challenge now is to convince her that just because she's now had the first vaccine doesn't mean she's not at risk and she shouldn't be swanning off to primark in the city centre as she did a fortnight ago!

hashbrownsandwich · 23/12/2020 05:05

I work for the NHS and we did a batch of 200 first jabs on the over 80s last week.
I think everyone needs to be realistic. The vaccine, while tested and approved, isn't going to completely stop covid and it'll be a long time before we know if it's genuinely effective.

Oddbutnotodd · 23/12/2020 05:05

My parents in their 80s. At the present rate of half a million so far it will take well over a year to vaccinate everyone, so not that impressive. Hope when the Oxford vaccine is available it will speed things up.
If you watched the news it said that herd immunity may now need to be higher and more of the population will need to be vaccinated, so later on next year.

We don’t need to vaccinate everyone though do we? Once a significant proportion of the nation has been vaccinated then life will be so much safer for all of us. There are 3.2 million people aged over 80 in the UK so they’ve made a good start IMO!

Yes.

whataballbag · 23/12/2020 06:59

Yes my lovely grandma (86) had hers last week. Second dose 6th Jan

Donotgogentle · 23/12/2020 06:59

Yes, HCP.

Crazythursday · 23/12/2020 07:02

I think it’s great that the elderly / vulnerable get the vaccine first, though how does that work in terms of herd immunity? Surely they are not the most populous group? Nor are they the ones likely to be spreading it?

Magi84 · 23/12/2020 07:03

DH and I had ours on Sunday. He's 93 and I am 87. Very efficiently organised it was too. 10th January for our second dose.

Beansbitch · 23/12/2020 07:07

Some of my work. Dental services, NHS

Scottishgirl85 · 23/12/2020 07:08

My husband, aged 35, has had it. He works in a hospital, but research not patient facing. They have spares left everyday due to people missing their appointment. He felt guilty taking it, but it was otherwise going to be binned due to short shelf life.

Oaktree55 · 23/12/2020 07:11

Yes uncle 84 Tier 4. Other uncle 81 much higher risk as no spleen hasn’t been contacted but then he’s Tier 2. I think they might be prioritising T4 regions.

Oaktree55 · 23/12/2020 07:14

@peasoup8 actually I think we do have to vaccinate a high % as given this mutation and the havoc it’s causing letting the virus run amok risks further mutations. It will be a mix of vaccinating as many as possible with distancing/masks. They won’t let it run through under 50’s naturally too much at stake globally with further variants as a result.

leafygarden42 · 23/12/2020 07:22

YES - Several of my patients at where I work.

Also staff in ICU, A and E, and respiratory wards.

Fab!!!

leafygarden42 · 23/12/2020 07:23

We are in a Tier 3 region.

frizzyandfrazzled · 23/12/2020 07:25

Yes 92 yo grandparents had their first dose Friday snd my HCP best friend offered it on 24th - north west trust. Come on Oxford vaccine, it's the only way out I can see.

Fallulah · 23/12/2020 07:27

My nan is over 100 and hasn’t been contacted. We asked the GP and they said they had given all of their allocation and she has to wait for the next batch to arrive but they don’t know when that will be. Yet we know people much younger who have been called for their so no idea how they are allocating them. There can’t be that many people over 100 locally!

ILookAtTheFloor · 23/12/2020 07:53

My nan is 94 and had hers last Wednesday 😁 whose betting that in the Queen's Xmas speech she'll say she's had the jab?

She's the same age as my nan.

WhatHaveIFound · 23/12/2020 07:54

I'm taking my mum today but i don't know of anyone else. MIL who is the same age hasn't been called yet though she's in a different health authority.

thepeopleversuswork · 23/12/2020 07:54

My dad (86) had his on Saturday.
