DF 87 still not been invited for vaccination

Getting a bit impatient. I didn't get my hopes too high to start with but every time I speak to someone with a relative over 80 they have had it. He and DM (only 75 but vulnerable due to a stroke at the beginning of the year) have seen my DC, their only GC, once since last Christmas. I thought I was being reasonable hoping they would be protected by early February but I'm now wondering whether they will.

Anyone else out there waiting and wondering? Is there a shortage in some areas? They are in Greater Manchester, ironically under the cosh lockdown wise for much of the year and now seemingly in short supply of the vaccine! I know we have to be patient but we've been patient for so long.

Just venting really, I know no-one has the answer.

My dad had an appointment last week, so mum went too and they were able to fit her in. Several people failed the screening questions so were not eligible, so there was spare vaccine that had to be used up.

It was a bit chaotic but it's early days.

Skipsurvey · 23/12/2020 06:53

2/3 of GP practices have not got vaccine

Parker231 · 23/12/2020 06:57

DH is a GP. They have had so many people calling the surgery that they have had to set a recorded message that people will be contacted with an appointment when it is their turn.

At the moment there are a limited number of vaccines and everyone wants it.

gerispringer · 23/12/2020 07:04

Our local big teaching hospital had a lot of no shows for the vaccine and had to give a shout out for anyone over 80 to turn up asap. I’m not sure why they didn’t give any spare to healthcare workers.,

ShinyGreenElephant · 23/12/2020 07:08

My 90yo grandad hasn't heard yet. He had covid 6 weeks ago though and brushed it off so maybe back of the queue?

notanotherlockdownsurely · 23/12/2020 07:10

My parents haven't been called yet. My DF is almost 90
However both are in good health and dont attend hospitals or doctors or a regular basis so hope they haven't been forgotten

luckylavender · 23/12/2020 07:13

I don't know any 80+ relative, family friend who has been called yet.

Movinghouse2015 · 23/12/2020 07:16

My 92 year old grandmother in Coventry had the vaccine on Sunday. She was contacted by her surgery. She had to go to a different surgery, but it was still local. It did appear to be done by postcode, as there were others from the same road she lives on there at the same time. All over 80, but varying ages.

luckylavender · 23/12/2020 07:17

@Goslowlysideways - that's horribly selfish. Everyone has been told to wait & not ring. The NHS doesn't need this pressure. Imagine if we all did this.

PimlicoJo · 23/12/2020 07:17

My neighbours on one side, both in their 80s, have both had it. My neighbours opposite, also both in their 80s, haven't heard anything. My friend's mum who is 91 hasn't had it yet either. I'm in London.

Tinkerbell2209 · 23/12/2020 07:22

I work in a GP surgery. We started this week at a hub with a dozen other practices. We were allocated one box of 975 vaccines, split between all of us. We got 80 vaccines for 400 odd over 80 year olds so they were literally picked at random as we thought this was the fairest way.

We want to get people vaccinated, but it is a huge logistical challenge.
Everyone eligible will be offered a vaccine, but we are all working around set delivery dates and won’t get another delivery now until the first week of January. The deliveries are being rolled out in waves, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc, across the country so some areas are further forward than others.

Trust me, we are not sitting around twiddling our thumbs, we simply can’t do everyone all at once.

Hope that helps.

userxx · 23/12/2020 07:34

@ShinyGreenElephant Will the vaccine work if he's already had it? Love hearing the stories of older people just brushing it off, the positive stories seem to be kept quiet!

hitsvilleuk · 23/12/2020 07:35

My parents - 80's have not yet been offered it
I am getting it today, first line NHS and start on a reopened Covid ward today as well!

louisejxxx · 23/12/2020 07:36

91 year old Gran also waiting, on outskirts of Newcastle. She’s getting impatient now too because one of her friends has already had the call.

daisypond · 23/12/2020 07:41

Neither my parents or any of their friends and relatives (mid- late-80s) have heard anything. North Yorkshire. Though I do know of someone in a different area who just phoned their GP and got an appointment that way- so you can get it quicker, it seems.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 23/12/2020 07:50

My parents, also in Greater Manchester, haven’t had the vaccine. They’re mid 80s and both have had hospital appointments in the last week or so. My father was told by his GP that the only place in the area that has the vaccine and the cold storage facilities are only available in Stockport, and they are nowhere near there. No idea if that’s true.

My neighbours had it yesterday (Leicestershire).

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 23/12/2020 07:51

Sorry many typos. Distracted by a dog!

userxx · 23/12/2020 07:54

@CarryOnFestiveNamechanging The new health centre in altrincham was vaccinating people last week.

purpleboy · 23/12/2020 07:54

@Newjobnewslob we're new forest and my 85 yo dad with COPD had his last Saturday at Applemore leisure Centre.

We called his dr on Monday, then got a call from the vaccine people on Tuesday to say he was having it Saturday.
Can't hurt to give them a call. Good luck.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 23/12/2020 07:56

Like I said, I was only going on what my Dad had said. They’re over in North Manchester and can’t drive any more, so are hoping there’ll be something nearer soon.

Muddybootsblister · 23/12/2020 08:05

Disappointingly my 88yo dad’s surgery in SW London isn’t starting vaccinating til Jan. He’s particularly cheesed off because his next door neighbour and wife (both in their 90s and registered with a different local practise) have already had theirs!

Muddybootsblister · 23/12/2020 08:06

Argh practice!

Puffler · 23/12/2020 08:10

80yo FIL has his today. He was called by his surgery and asked to go in for it. He has no known health conditions and is fit and active. We are in South East (t2).

MiniMaxi · 23/12/2020 08:12

Yep Oxford AZ is ready to go as soon as approved - announcement due 28th Dec though no guarantee of approval

Makegoodchoices · 23/12/2020 08:20

We’re out in the sticks but the local town has a ‘supersurgery’ so most of the 80+ yr olds in my mum’s friendship group have been called in.

Village surgery closest to us doesn’t have the required infrastructure to store and run 12 hr clinics so those 80 yr olds must wait. When the Oxford one is readily available it’ll be much easier. The Pfizer one is too delicate.
