3 days now I'm more depressed than ever, I love smelling my hair, my son I used to love nutella and sweets and it's all been taken away I could eat cat food and wouldn't know.

I've literally done everything garbled salt, antibiotics syringed salt water up me nose. Steamed my face with vicks and even shoved it up my nose 🥺

Someone shed some light pleeeeeeease

Do you mean your three days since you tested positive ?

Covidwoes · 22/12/2020 19:37

@Markygirl1995 I'm 5 weeks in and mine still haven't fully recovered. Both are coming back slowly, but I have a long way to go. I'm particularly struggling to taste savoury food. It's so annoying! I was delighted today though that I could smell a strong scented candle! I think in some people taste and smell take a while to come back.

Msloverlover · 22/12/2020 19:37

Please stop shoving things up your nose! Especially vicks!

Markygirl1995 · 22/12/2020 19:42

@starrynight19 since losing taste and smell. Retested today due to last one coming back unclear

@covidwoes that's a long time how the heck did you manage?! I'm already depressed and upset about it that's good news that's it's coming back though

@Msloverlover I shall stop now the Vicks was an accidental slip

Mine is back and I'm on day 16

QueenAnnaOfArrandale · 22/12/2020 19:44

I'm on week 6 and still have no smell at all, not even the faintest bit. It's really annoying me, I'm totally paranoid that I actually smell and don't know 😂

Markygirl1995 · 22/12/2020 19:49

@Livedandlearned that's a bit of hope but so long away 🥺

@QueenAnnaOfArrandale oh my God noooo hope you're ok mentally it's so depressing I think this could be the worst thing that's ever happened to me

It's really variable, my colleague had covid in March and taste still hasn't come back. He's really depressed about it. Fingers crossed for you.

ilikebooksandplants · 22/12/2020 21:23

I lost my sense of smell for two days but it’s back now and I’m not even out of my isolation period so don’t worry OP, it may not be as bad as you feared.
I did the same though, running about like a crazy person trying to smell everything! Blush

ivfbeenbusy · 22/12/2020 21:30

Curious to know did taste/smell gradually go or did you wake up one morning with it and then felt generally ill with the other covid symptoms? I don't have a great sense of smell anyway so often thought whether I'd notice it was totally gone one day?

SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch · 22/12/2020 21:51

My mother lost her smell and taste in March, they came back fairly quickly but even now she still struggles to eat some things as the texture feels different (she said chocolate now feels like chewing on a crayon!) Its a very strange one thats for certain

Scaryprospects · 22/12/2020 22:47

Mine took about two weeks to come back properly. It is the weirdest thing ever

AlbertCampion · 22/12/2020 23:24

Had Covid in March and still can't properly smell some things. Luckily, it's poo-related smells so not that awful - although I do get paranoid that I won't know if I accidentally step in something! Also, some things taste different now - for example, peppers.

Lougle · 22/12/2020 23:28

I've got a cold and I suddenly thought I had no sense of smell earlier, but then I sniffed some vanilla extract and it was fine. I hope your smell returns quickly.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 22/12/2020 23:33

Almost three weeks for me. It was a gradual return.

TeenageMutantNinjaCovid · 22/12/2020 23:34

9 weeks, partially back but can't smell low earthy smells (the dog, woody perfume etc)

Probably poo as well (as poster above) as I can't smell the dog at all and he is a puppy.

africanantelope · 22/12/2020 23:57

Mine lasted exactly 7 days, on day 8 it was very slight but it was their and it honestly felt like the best day of the year for me. It's horrible! It's took another week for me to feel it was completely back to normal. Hope it works out well for you Daffodil

RedRec · 23/12/2020 00:06

My taste and smell are not back (apart from the occasional whiff of perfume / sweet smelling toiletries) and I tested positive on October 26th.

Taffyapple8 · 23/12/2020 01:34

I tested positive two weeks ago and lost taste and smell the following day. It's been trying to return since about Friday. It's nowhere near where it should be but moving in the right direction x

Medstudent12 · 23/12/2020 08:59

A few weeks in and mine is back, well it’s not at 100% but is much much better. Hang in there, it’ll improve slowly.

Covidrelapse · 23/12/2020 09:02

6 weeks and smelt my Christmas tree for the first time yesterday. Taste is limited to sweet, bitter, salt. It’s crap.

BananaPop2020 · 23/12/2020 09:13

This happens to me EVERY time I catch a cold - I am plagued with sinus issues. Record time for me was 8 months. I had to beg the GP to show an interest and even then all I got was some antibiotics so that an infection could be ruled out.

I have accepted the high likelihood of catching COVID, but want it to be after Christmas lunch 🙂
